Assuming Ange is onboard with this I'm all in. Son's away, Veliz is out and Dane Scarlett has barely kicked a ball. No idea how Werner has been performing in Germany but Ange must have seen something he likes or the data adds up.

8 appearances, 2 goals, 0 assists.

RB Leipzig played 16 games. He missed 4 due to abductor pain or back issue. On the bench for 4 other games. Played 8, started 2 and subbed in other 6.

I guess RB Leipzig has no use for him.

I like the move. Experienced attacker, can cover multiple positions, and Ange will have signed off on this - presumably over Jota.

Informative and a bit worrying. Always thought he was a bit meh finishing wise and injury prone but perhaps Ange can work magic.

He’s currently on £165k pw with bonuses apparently it seems. Probably another reason they wanted him gone considering his performances,

Good point. Many of us want players moved on to help with the wage bill. Them wanting rid of £165k pw on a player is sensible and not necessarily because he's rubbish.

He was really highly thought of before he went to Chelsea, think he scored 70 odd over four seasons with Leipzig.
Chelsea was hard on him though, like most forwards who end up there, especially at such a young age.
There’s definitely a player in there so let’s give it a shot, glad to welcome him on board 👌

2020/21 - Started really well for Lampard scoring 4, assisting 4 in first 10 games. Then Lampard honeymoon period was over and came under pressure. By Jan he was gone. Then Tuchel came. He went to play FA CUp final, Scored in CL semis against RM and won the finals

2021/22 - Very good start to season. Overall scored 6 goals & 12 assists Roman left & Boehly came. He was sold for 25m for Leipzig

2022/2023-Overall scored 16 goals all comps. Not the greatest in league. He had injuries, lost his place in World cup squad, lost a bit of confidence.

2023/24 - Leipzig bought Lois Openda who is scoring 11 in 16 league games. Also they have Sesko, Poulsen, Simons, Olmo on their books - so pretty well stocked in forward areas. This season Werner has rarely played, 0 starts in league , though has 2 goals from bench

Overall, we are getting a player bit out of confidence

But lets remember - last time Werner played in a pressing system was in 2019/20, where he scored 28 goals in 34 league games under Nagelsmann

So, there is lot of hope under Ange he could come back into his own

I actually liked him as a footballer when he was at Chelsea, but I can't imagine him chipping in with too many goals. His finishing is poor.

After watching last night it's hard to argue that we don't need someone up top.
I don’t disagree that we need someone up top, but Burnley spent the majority of the game with 11 men behind the ball, without Maddison and Son and to a large extent Sarr in the team it’s not surprising that we struggled to break them down.

I gave up thinking i could predict success or failure of individual players under particular coaches. So many players underperformed for Jose and AC while so many outperform for Poch and Ange. Hell, i wasn't convinced Kane was anything more than a squad player and yet "knew" that Toby and Mousa were going to be special.

Divisive signing but one i think makes sense when you break down the pros and cons:

pros:
-6mth loan. We have been stung with big money buys recently and have found it hard to shift dross. So try before you buy is a great shout.
- he knows london and the league well.
- his career stats average almost 300 odd goals or assists in 450 odd games. That is better than all of our players bar son. Hell even at chelsea he was a 1/3 striker.
- has pace and is able to press which is great for anges system, and lets not forget klopp was desperate for him before he joined the chavs
- he can play all across the front three which fits the profile of what we want.

cons:
- lets be honest he missed some sitters for chelsea and looked generally a bit like a donkey in their set up. So did he find the league hard or was it chelseas play that hindered him? Hard to tell.
- he hasnt lit up leipzig since returning to germany.

I think given the positives he is worth the gamble that is very little. Would i actively pick him to come here… no, but i get why we are doing it. My only gripe is i hope he doesn't mean that we will miss out on a player who is better suited for us, (eg gimenez, nusa, bakayoko) but i can only presume they aren't available to come now so this is the best we can get until the summer.

Tbh January is usually so difficult to buy. If our top targets aren’t available he is a good stop gap.
