brilliant news on Dembele

Rose is a funny one - don't care to be honest but surprised if Utd go in for him

Yeah I don't think there was much doubt after the season he's had that dembele would get a new deal. The bit in the paper the other day was making more out of things than what was actually being said.

I'd still like to keep Rose. But yeah I think it will be unlikely.

I don't see how signing a new contract with us NOW will give him the game time to save his WC?
It may get back on our bench, but signing a new contract won't get him back in our first 11 , Sanchez and Jan have nailed their positions, i think Toby has left it too late to get himself back into our team and his WC may be affected.

What i like what we have done, which i must add has been helped by our great run and Sanchez/Jan's form, is to show players and send out a clear message that if they are being unreasonable they will be frozen out and their immediate careers will be affected.....no one is or should be bigger then our club and however great Toby has been for us , we have been for him too and i don't think he is worth the money he is demanding seeing as he will find it hard to even make the first team.

In an ideal world (contract signed and fit) Toby Alderweireld does not find it hard to make the first team.

Unbeaten since 2017. Thats 4 months. We are on a fantastic unbeaten run so i can't agree Toby would not find it hard to make the first team sorry. That doesn't mean i don't rate him,but him just walking back into the team because he is fit and all good ain't happening imo

Don't get me wrong, I think Sanchez has improved immeasurably since the beginning of the season and will only get better, I just think Toby provides the reassurance and calmness that Poch ultimately looks for in a defender. And history tells us when he was fit, he plays!

Like i said Toby is a player i rate highly and certainly hope we can somehow sort out a solution , but i doubt it.
History did tell us that when he was fit he played, but that was before the emergence of Sanchez whose pace Toby cannot match , and when you play a high line as we do , is equally as important as Tobys calmness, and is one of the reasons we are doing so well.

I believe had Sanchez not been such a success, Poch Levy and Toby may have found a comprimise by now, but i don't believe we need to be paying 200k for a player who has hardly been missed , though i repeat i rate highly and hope he backs down and finds a way to accept the measly offer on the table :greedy: ...bless the poor sod. on the outside looking in .it seems the relationship is broken and he will be off.

Despite what Martinez has said previously, even if Toby doesn't play for us again, I think he will still be in Belgium's WC squad, if he doesn't get another injury between now and the WC. Getting a starting spot in the Belgian squad for any WC games is another issue though.

It would be crazy for Belgium to go to the World Cup without the option of playing Toby, Kompany and Jan in a back three.

Can we please look at whatever Belgian defenders are coming through in

Whatever Belgian youth team defenders there are around right now - can we please be having a look at them?

I’m a bit meh on this now, as long as he goes abroad I’m fine with it. Poch seems to have dropped the 3 at the back formation so as long as Verts stays fit he isn’t badly missed. We didn’t pay £40m* for Sanchez for him to sit on the bench.

So, it was all contract related then? No truth to “he needs to wait his turn”? Bummer. As our defense looked it’s best when Toby was fit and firing. We look a bit more flimsy without him.

As for the wait your turn theory. That was full of more holes than a Swiss cheese ball the size of the Sun. As if that were the case, wouldn’t Poch have eased Harry back in? It’s not like we were doing poorly without him.

This whole episode sucks. I just wish both parties could’ve found a way. Oh well.

Loosing Toby sucks, and loosing Walker last summer still sucks. I think a lot of people have forgotten how good he actually is.

Yep. Will be even worse when Rose goes too. That’s 3 of the back 4 that was the best in the league gone. It’s bad news whichever way you cut it but that’s the circumstances this club is in.

Hope its not to another PL club.

I hope so too but I can’t see how PSG sign him what with the Mbappe transfer being paid this summer and the financial sanctions hanging over them. They’re going to have to sell some players to bring him in.
