Tough one, but if we could get say Diawara, or perhaps Kondogbia then I can see the argument.

We need to involve and improve, and certainly being more expansive in midfield would make us better.

Probably not the top item on our list this summer. It will if we can get our price, and sign player X - and also depend on the Dembele situation.
I’d say Diawara should play next to a Waynama/Dier ala Dembele imo

I'd be worried about selling one too many 'big' players in one window. Continuity is important.

I don't think we'll be actively looking to sell any of our top players, but if they want to go it's a different situation that we don't have all that much say in.

Probably won't happen with how Poch likes to line up, but my outfield 10 would look something like this if we had Diawara:

KWP - DS - JV - DR

Dele - Diawara - CE

LM - HK - HMS

I want to start playing a quicker style of play where we pepper their goal and are flying around the pitch. I want us to start pressing as a unit again and winning the ball back at all costs. The side is a bit light maybe, but I think the modern game is moving towards a more mobile defensive game VS a build a wall defensive game.

I can't see us getting Diawara if Napoli are selling Jorginho, as has been widely reported. Not sure who else we'd get who would be a realistic improvement on Wanyama.

Napoli are buying Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria to replace Jorginho, they don't want Diawara.

That's a 4-1-5 and we would get absolutely murdered by any team with any tactical nous.

I see Diawara more a B2B then a sitting DM

I would argue that Man City deploys a very similar side and well, they seem to be doing pretty well.

Walker - Kompany - Otamendi - Delph

KDB - Fernandinho - Silva

Sterling - Aquero - Sane

I agree it is light, but Dele has displayed more than once that he is capable of playing in the CM3 or 2 for that matter. This year against Pool where we beat them 4-1 he was centrally positioned and played a very sound game. Eriksen slots back to receive the ball a great deal this year and he is one of our hardest workers. Diawara? Well I have watched a great deal of him and he reads passing lanes, pressures and is cool as a cucumber under pressure.

Wish I saw this before I posted my response above...hate double dipping in the same thread to touch on the same topic, but I think he is one of the most versatile mids I have seen in a great deal and I have likened him to a Basquets many a time. He is cool on the ball, covers passing lanes beautifully, transitions play with a deft touch and is just generally a boss. If Jorignho (spelling) is gone this year and the little dude from Sampdoria doesn't move over, I would think Diawara would be taking that role and making people forget about who they had previously. I haven't been this high on a kid since Thiago and man do I wish we had him too.

Completely agree with this all it’s just my personal view that if we married him up in CM with Waynama he’d be a absolute beast breaking forward and linking up for the attackers.

I suppose it’ll free him up more than if he is a pivot.

Hopefully we are looking for him

I see that and I think when called upon to break forward he can, but the strengths I see are in the Basquets, Weigl mold. Much more comfortable being the pivot. That being said he can wiggle away from anyone and break forward at pace and that is why I think he can replace Dembele, plus some.

I have been rallying (cause spurs recruitment staff definitely are on these boards and listen to some arm chaired american :) ), that the perfect foil to Diawara in the long haul is De Jong. That is the kid I want sitting next to Diawara and Eriksen in a CM3. He has the defensive chops, but the desire to break forward and is much more sound in that department than Diawara is IMO.

EDIT: I am by no way suggesting we get rid of Wanyama. I love the guy and once back up to speed I think he is a very good player that fits a lot of what we do.

...Diawara is already at Napoli. He'll step into the first XI in place of Jorginho next season. I'd be shocked if they sold both in the same window.

Absolutely cannot get rid of big Vic.
Fine with shipping out Toby, Rose, Dembele, Sissy if we have adequate replacements in place. CM spots need a makeover, but we've got the best CDM depth in the league with Dier and Vic and it should stay that way. I love Diawara and he'd be a dream signing but would he capable of anchoring the midfield alongside another player like Winks?

The DM role is a balancing act and very interesting. City and Liverpool play without an orthodox destroyer. Although Fernandinho and Henderson do their best in that role but both are much more progressive than say a Dier who is more your orthodox destroyer. City get away with it because they have 70% of ball most games. Liverpool use the we will score more than you theory. But both have been exposed this season when teams can go at them. For me I’d have a Dier and Fernandinho in squad giving the option to play both ways. Which is why I think wanyama could be sold to buy the more ball playing DM.

Id be shocked if Wanyama was sold in the summer. Its just normal newspaper rubbish implying we will be having a clearout.
Poch and Wanyama are close and by all accounts big vic is very happy here.

We will trim the gristle off the squad with the likes of N'Koudou, Llorente, Janssen leaving and probable sales / loans of CCV and Onomah.

I just cant see a bigger club than Spurs coming in for Rose after the season he has just had and i still think Dembele will stay.

That leaves us with Toby, id be suprised if he is still with us next season, fingers crossed we can sign him up again but its the Kyle Walker situation all over again.

Waynama is going to be huge the start of the season.

He’ll get a full preseason while others are at the World Cup and be fully ready to go

IMO he would. He has a great blend intelligence, strength and guile. He's the type of player that would complement Dier/Wanyama/Winks by adapting and altering his play style depending on who he's partnered with.

His latest Instagram seems to say a lot:

“In life many things don’t go according to plan. If you fall, get back up. If you stumble regain your balance. Never give up. ???”
