Thats not true

They are clearly two separate incidents

Yes he is too slow

But currently he's also not fit enough for the system we play

The latter can he worked on and improved the former cannot really but as with Ricky Lamert poch can improve his football iq and help him mould his game so that his lack of pace is less of a hinderance

Ie to anticipate play better so that initial yard in your head is his

Why wouldn't he be fit nearly two months into the season?

He's fit according to the levels and intensity he's been accustom playing in holland

It's a different level of continuous high intensity required to play effectively in a Poch team due to his tactics

So Janssen needs time to up his fitness levels to meet the new demands

It's not that he's not fit because he's had the summer off and not got back to speed like you are dismissing in a straw man argument it's that his level of fitness isn't high enough for this team yet

He is match fit but not fit enough to lead the press, I think that's the problem plus he's carrying weight, you can see it. He runs himself into the ground and he's blowing at around the 40 min mark, then after half time he's knackered around 60 mins. Really needs to up his fitness.

Plus he's match fit for the Eredivisie, which is played at a slower pace. He's still only played a handful of games, and needs to get used to a faster league and the faster style of play under Pochettino.

He hasn't been playing consecutive 90mins to build up match fitness. But mainly it's the demands of the system, he's being asked to cover much more ground than previously. For the Dutch he's still going strong in the second half but for us he's blowing after half an hour at the moment. Still it's been noted in Holland that he seems stronger and fitter than last season already.

Pochs double training sessions are notoriously punishing and it takes a while to reap the benefits. The same is probably true of Sissoko.

What i will say is if he played for another team the majority of us would say he is slow as fuck as fat as shit and as shit as diarrheoa BUT his hold up play is alright. A waste of money.

Disclaimer... this is not what i think but this is what we would say if he played for Le Arse for example.

Looking how Kane's developed physically under Poch is a example of what Janssen has to do. Neither are natural athletes but Kane gained an extra yard somewhere though his conditioning. Jansen is never going to be an off the last defender type striker but he has intelligence, strength and desire and that'll go a long way it just won't happen overnight.

Appreciate he's not played many games but surely after nearly three months of Poch training, he should be able to last a bit longer than 30 mins?

For me what will make him a success isn't his current fitness or form which can both be improved and worked on. It's his determination and attitude. Those can't necessarily be coached and for me what actually makes him stand out as a player. When he's 100% fit to play the system, he'll be a very dangerous striker, capable of scoring all kinds of goals. I'm looking forward to seeing that transformation.

Im happy with his all round play and am confident he will start getting goals. I will lay off him this season. He ads a different dimension to the team.

People doubting him should listen to Poch's press conference and to what he says about Janssen. It's more than sensible.

When I was a kid I remember Lineker saying that as long as he was getting chances he didn't care so much if he wasn't scoring as he knew the goals would come. He said its when your not getting a sniff during a whole game, that's when you have to worry.

Jansen has been getting chances and creating goals for others, plus he's young and new to the league.

He'll be fine.

Agree with the post saying he needs to follow Kane's lead with the conditioning work.

Kane is built like a scafolder now when he was a bit gangly before, it has definately helped his pace and his confidence.

With Janssen he is a battler anyway and capable of physically dominating defenders but getting leaner and quicker would help.

Apart from that I totally agree he should be more selfish with his positioning and 'hang' more when we are in possession.

Not concerned still think he will get 10-15 goals all comps.

Most sensible analysis back up what Lineker is saying. Getting chances is the difficult thing, mostly. It's why teams persist with Cavani. His finishing is absolutely slapstick at times, but his movement will always guarantee that he gets enough chances that it's almost impossible not to score quite a few goals.

Guys like Aguero, Messi, Lewandowski and Ronaldo convert about one in four of their good goal scoring chances. We probably can't expect Janssen to be at their level, which basically means that in order to get a reasonable amount of goals, he needs to be taking more shots from situations where one could call it a good chance.

The slightly worrying thing is that he's not fluffing a huge amount of chances (as Kane was in the first couple of months of last season). If he was, things would normally even themselves out, and he would end up scoring quite a bit. In the last four games or so, I really can't remember other good chances he had than the header at Leverkusen.

Of course, he has generally been playing pretty well, but this notion that all he needs is one goal, and then he'll probably score lots, is something I can't get behind currently. He needs to adjust something about his game, and I trust Poch to make this happen. He made Rickie Lambert a good PL striker, ffs.

I agree that the important thing is getting chances, ie getting into goalscoring positions. Not sure why you think he has been getting chances...he hasn't really. He has had a few sitters, not many but otherwise has generally not being getting into threatening positions at all. Which I think is a bigger problem.

Did a club that has aspirations of winning the league & cups need a striker who is clearly work in progress or a striker who can come straight in and do the job?

I'm really happy with him. I genuinely have no concerns, think he'll be a great player for us.

Same reason as why I was never worried about Lamela. You can see he has the talent but for whatever reason it's not clicking in front of goal. In these situations j just look for the desire and mentality and you know if a player has that then it's just a matter of time until they show their qualities over a consistent period of time.
