It amazes me how he put away a really tricky half-chance today but has missed lots of clear chances this season. Even the header he had after his goal was easier to score than the one he converted.

Just makes me wonder whether he really feels the pressure building when he has time and space. Hopefully now he's got a goal the pressure will alleviate somewhat. Certainly not opposed to him getting some playing time against stubborn defences if Kane is out for a while.
His goal was an instinctive finish I suppose

You'd have thought that goal would have given him the confidence to put away the easier chance with his header, but he reverted to type

I'd like to say I was confident he'd now become a prolific scorer for his. But its more that I hope he does. Soldado already showed that scoring goals in cup games wont automatically translate into goals in the league

But Janssen may well get another chance in the team now Kane is injured and hopefully with a goal from open play under his belt and more experience training with the team he will be a better back up this time around

Although he may well find Son ahead of him still for the role

I thought he certainly looked lighter on his feet compared to the start of the season.
I desperately want him to do well for us and was as pleased as punch when he scored, however I did say to the bloke next to me that Janssen has the turning circle of an oil tanker!

Should have put that header away... :D

Nah, good finish for the goal... pressure was off, and it was a perfect opportunity for him. Will have been huge for him to see how much the crowd and his teammates were happy for him.

Yeah I echo the Soldado comment above. The header miss was a bit of a let down, you'd have hoped the floodgates would have opened in his mind and he just goes and buries the next one. Didn't happen though.

What i would say was there was more determination to get into the box and get in those dangerous positions. There was more willingness to shoot on sight too. He had quite a few blocked efforts. It was more of what he was in the Eiredivise, a rampaging nuisance, rough around the edges. My only worry was that we knew he could look dangerous against teams of the calibre of Millwall. It's whether he can in the PL.

Really glad he scored and hopefully this will be the beginning of him doing himself justice for us. I do worry about his football sense in being able to find space for himself in threatening positions.

This was highlighted for the 6th goal...look at the run he makes. How does he expect to be able to be in a scoring position from there?

our results and performences when Janssen has started actually haven't been that bad when you take a closer look:

1-0 win home to palace
2-1 win away to Boro
1-1 draw away to west brom - should have won but foster had a fantastic game
1-1 draw home to Leicester - terrible result given there away form but again should have won but wasn't due to lack of chances
3-2 win at home to west Ham - he actually went off when we were 2-1 down but did get an assist for wink's goal

based on what Poch has been saying about his improvements on the training ground maybe he could have a big part to play from now until the end of the season. our results with him starting haven't been terrible although the number of goals is a tad worrying.

I always felt Janssen was bought because Poch planned to play 4-2-3-1 at the start of the season.

Vincent would play in a fixed position with the AMs running past etc.
But our change to 3-4-3 calls for a different dynamic in the forward play with only 3 out and out forwards, hence why Son gets the nod.

I think Janssen may have just been unlucky and his lack of goals meant Poch couldn't justify changing the team dynamic for his sake.
If he starts banging a few in then this might change.

Vinny will kick on now.

Poch might start bringing him on even earlier, maybe around the 75th min v league one oppo & the 88min v Prem teams

It's just the football rub. Look at the Son 3rd goal chance and the Janssen header. Both strikers did the right thing, the keeper spills the softer one and Son gets a hatrick.

Janssen really hasn't been wasting loads of chances, most of the games he played we weren't created them.

Janssen's finish showed nice technique, didn't slash at it or try to whack it too hard. He is having to adapt his game, do more without the ball than he did in Holland to fit our system. He's only 22. I don't think he's ever going to be world class, but he doesn't have to be to be useful.

Just watched the goals again and a major worry still for me is Janssens movement to get into a position to score

After he scored he should be full of confidence. But for our 6th goal when Eriksen is looking to cross the ball Janssen moves from a goalscoring position and runs to the near post where if he got the ball it would be virtually impossible to score

Ball ended up with Son who scored

Maybe was all part of Janssen's ingenious plan to set up Son for a hat-trick...? :sneaky:

May not have been the best movement there but there were a couple of times where Son had the ball central and Janssen was on his heels looking to receive the pass for him to be through on goal. One of the times he would have been clean through had it not hit the defender on the way and that was positive, him facing forward looking to be on the end of things.

He's the sort of striker who thrives on instinct. When he has to think about it even for a second he will more often miss like Soldado.

That wasn't Soldado's problem at all...his problem was that he didn't fit into the Spurs team's way of playing and then an eventual lack of confidence.

Here's hoping he "does a Pav"

Looked average, benched, not starting, then randomly went on that fantastic scoring run that started against Liverpool, who had totally outplayed us, only for us to "pick their pockets" and win, 2010/11 I think.

Love this thread...gets dogs abuse because the poor fucker hadn't scored from open play, now when he finally does its 'Why didn't he score 2/3/12 ?' or 'his positionings shit'

I guess its just people trying to validate their earlier criticisms but fucking hell give Vinny a day off for once.
