So who will be Pochs captain no. 1?

Kaboul and Dawson don't seem to be starters for us anymore and in my opinion an automatic starter has to be captain.

Your suggestions for captain 1, 2 and 3?

Mine:

1. Vertonghen
2. Kaboul
3. Dawson/ Lloris/ Walker

I do#t think normally the keeper should be captain.

Why not? Hugo does an alright job for France, doesn't he? :D

If Vertonghen has sorted himself out then he would be a good captain. Eventually I'd like to see Walker given it if he stays with us though. An English captain for an English club always helps in my opinion.

Kaboul, Vertonghen or Lloris will be club captain, IMO. Walker is an outside possibility. I would say Sandro as well but we dont know for sure if he is in Poch's plans. Of course, it all really depends on Dawson being sold.

He does but I think he is respected enough even without being captain. I always think it needs an outfield player to have a word with the ref and every other player. and one who can always sprint to Poch for new instructions.

I'm not a big fan of goalkeeper captains, they don't seem to be able to influence or inspire as an outfield player can.
I'd love to see Sandro as captain, simply because he has that (don't shoot me for this) Steven Gerard 'never say give up' fighting spirit, he always tries for the 90+ minutes and you know he won't shirk giving people instructions or a pep talk.
I'm not 100% sure we'll see him this season if the rumour mill is anything to go by, and of course the captain should be a nailed on first teamer. If not Sandro, the Verts.

I think Vertonghen makes sense, as long as we've got some indication that he'll be sticking around for a couple of years.

I'd say Kaboul, but you need someone who is going to be a regular and Kab's injuries mean that isn't the case.

Lallana was his captain at Southampton, but we don't really have an equivalent player in terms of length of service at the club (apart from Daws and Lennon who both presumably won't be starters either).

Wouldn't be entirely surprised if he made Schneiderlin his captain if we're able to bring him in.

Voted Lloris, but I'd have Kaboul as captain if he was consistently fit. Seems to have real leadership qualities.

Oh and where's the Danny Woes option?

I think it is going to be someone completely unexpected, Lennon or someone like that

how? given that Walker is one of the least intelligent players we have at the club, I personally hope the day never comes that sees him made captain.

If Lennon can up his game and play like he did vs Toronto and Chicago I wouldn't mind him being captain.

If not, Vertonghen or Lloris, maybe Walker or Sandro.

Its a very difficult call without knowing who will be first choice, injury situations etc.

If we are confident that kabouls injury issues are behind him, then in would go for him, massive 'if' though. Also depends on whether we get a new first choice CB who will be competing for his place you would assume. Second choice Lloris, great pro and will start all the big games. Third vertonghen, especially if he extends his contract. I would love to say Sandro, but he may not be in pochs plans, will have a lot of competition for his place so best not.

Considering the caveats above, Lloris is probably the safest bet. If Kaboul plays he will still be a leader despite lacking the armband.

I wouldn't be surprised to see daws staying and being club captain, even if he doesn't make the starting 11. Not that I agree with it, it's what Avb did.

To answer this question, you'd have to understand what Poch looks for in a captain. There are 3 types of leaders and each type has a different player associated with it.
1. The captain people respect because of their huge talent - For me, that's Lloris or Vertonghen.
2. The captain that gets verbal and motivates everyone around them - For me, that would be Kaboul.
3. The captain that players will work hard for purely because they work that damn hard themselves, and show passion for the team - For me that would be Sandro or Holtby.

Unfortunately that doesn't bring me any closer to answering the question, because at Southampton Adam Lallana was a mix of all 3 of these categories.

If it was me, and I was looking for the perfect plend of all 3 categories, I would opt for Sandro or Holtby.
They both have talent in abundance, aren't afraid to voice opinions on the pitch, and both work their arses off for 90 minutes.

But in fairness, we have no idea if these 2 are even in his plans.

Can't see it being Kaboul

If reports are true that he showed petulance towards Poch in America then i can't see Poch making him captain under any circumstances

It's actually quite worrying that when I look at the squad for captain material, I don't see a lot of it.

The obvious choices are Sandro and Lloris, but the former may not be here and like others I'm not too keen on keeper captains. Maybe Verts ( I can't remember if he was captain at Ajax). Not sure he strikes me as captain material, although saying that it might be a masterstroke ( or masterstroke of his ego more like).

So, er, the conclusion is I haven't really got a clue.

He doesn't need to be intelligent. He just needs to work hard, be good enough to be respected, and be vocal. Walker fits all three, and he'll get smarter as he gets older. I wouldn't want him as captain now, but later in his career.
