We have a tradition at spurs of passing down the armband the ex captain chooses the next captain. ledley gave the armband to dawson (I think they actually recorded this happening for spurstv) dawson gave the armband to kaboul.

In essence kaboul will be named club captain. Lloris will be named team captain.
Ideally vertonghen will be released but thats just my wishful thinking.

I'm sure he means that he hopes the information that is released names Vertonghen as the captain, not Verts actually being released.

I could be reading too much into this but the silence on the captaincy suggests it is linked to the delay in Verts' contract and so I'd expect the 2 announcements simultaneously.

Lloris or Verts should be captain, IMO. But I cant help but think Kaboul will be named captain.

A club captain should be a first team regular, IMO as that is the person who is going to have to step up and lead on the pitch and in the dressing room and in training when things arent going well. You need someone who is a first team regular that commands respect. Is the team really going to listen to someone and respect them as a leader when they dont play regularly?

I dislike the idea that Jan has been bribed into a new contract with the captaincy. Should be earned and an honour.

I agree that the captain should be a first team regular, always felt that the captain should be one of the best players who can also command respect and show true leadership qualities. But I just have a feeling they will make Kaboul 'club' captain as I don't think he would be poch's first choice. With that being the case they also appoint a team captain, someone who is first choice and who the manager thinks is best for the leadership side of things. If poch was to choose Verts, then he will just be captain and there won't be any of this club and team captain nonsense.

I've always thought Kaboul's taking slow motion revenge on Levy for the "treat us all like cows...I am not a dog" crisis by running down his contract though.

How can Kaboul be captain? He's not good enough to be in the side.

An outside shout for captaincy is Etienne Capoue.. I like the look of him and he reminds me of Patrick Viera as a player.
