Totally agree on the Ade decision - I'm loving that actually, think its a shrewd move.

Adebayor is egotistical and quite sensitive I think, he needs to feel the love and then he'll turn it on for ya.

rather Soldado gets some love myself

This might be Poch making it clear that he didn't really want Fazio, and he's put Kaboul as captain to signify that.

I don't think Poch would make petty political gestures (especially one that materially impacts upon our chances of success) a month into his first season during his biggest break in management just because he didn't get his first choice transfer (despite strong efforts on our part to deliver).

There is a lot of shite being talked here.

Don't worry, it's just residual anxiety after the chaos of last season.

As the season goes on that will fade as people twig what poch is up to.

The calm after last seasons storm will take a while.

There is a lot of shite being talked here.

Hardly surprising especially if it gets handed down by the previous incumbant; beyond that he's been here ages and maybe Poch likes him?

It's easy to presume squad dynamics but unless you're in the dressing room, you don't really know.

I actually like the Ade decision; he's pretty much the oldest in the changing room now and it would be a smart room for Poch to empower him, show faith in the hope he'll get good Ade back, which if we recall is capable of 17 goals and 12 assists in a season. So why not?

Lloris and Vertonghen just aren't demonstrative enough for me so I can see why they've been overlooked. I'm no fan of the 'best player is captain' shite either so all in all, makes sense to me.

I like the idea of Adebayor too, maybe he is actually pretty popular within the dressing room?

You would have thought so...

Yeah, I really am looking forward to seeing Soldado with Poch's chosen 'three' in behind him - on the pitch that is lol.

But we need both to do well and this decision will only help in lifting Adebayor's performances.

You don't think Poch might have given it a bit more thought than that no...?

It's just personal opinion as I think that is how the season will play out.

I actually think Poch has considered many factors in appointing Kaboul captain but I don't believe he is the kind of manager to keep him in the team regardless of form.

And, while I voted Vertonghen awhile ago, I would hold his contract delay, and "threat" to leave over champions league against him - certainly in his rights to do so, but not showing club loyalty or leadership that I would want from a club captain.

I can sort of agree with that, but no question Jan our best defender.

So if it's a fight to partner him, we've basically said to Fazio and Vlad you guys are our 2nd choice to Kaboul who on merit shouldn't be in the team.

Or we drop our Captain.

Same message to Soldado, you are no.2 now.

Imo a captain MUST be an automatic pick based in performance.

So if it's not Jan...and it can't be Erikssen...it's Hugo surely?!

Fair enough it would just seem a bit odd if two of the three that were picked would then lose their places, cant see how that would add to the harmony.

Sadly, and I do mean it as I quite like the guy, I think there is going to be a lot of disappointed fellows re Soldado as the season pans out. If I was whacking money on it I would lump on January deadline day loan to Spain with a view to a permanent deal.

Thing is, none of us know what leadership Younes is showing *off* the field. He wouldn't be my choice based on the pitch, but I'm happy to go with what our new manager thinks will be best for the team. COYS.

Wonder where this leaves Vertonghen. No new contract and not a vice-captain.
Yes, slightly worried that he may have opted out searching for CL footie. I know there was ITK saying he was about to sign a new deal, but if he is desperate to play in the CL he's at the wrong club at the moment and shouldn't captain the side.

If he knows heads from tails and can make his way from the changing room to the pitch without walking behind someone then he is perfectly qualified to put the armband on.

What I do like about Kaboul though is that he isn't afraid to get in the ref's face when contesting a decision. There was a comment from a reporter at the weekend that when Kaboul came out of the changing room after the game on Saturday a reporter stuck a microphone in front of him and asked him something to which he replied something like "I don't speak unless there's a press officer present." It's the kind of authoritative leader that we need in my opinion, almost in the Gallas mode before he went lame.

We will soon be the club that Ade have served the longest and, frankly, I am really getting sick of the abuse he gets. His first season was great for us. He had a season out of form. He came back and bagged 14 in just half a season last year. He's a senior player and a strong personality, and this is perfect for his ego stroking.

I think it's an excellent choice and I think the fans who fall back on the "lazy, playing for a contract" crap are not only being unfair to the player, but aren't properly getting behind their team and are holding on to an assumption based, unproven and old line of bullshit.

I have huge anounts of time for Ade and I hope he becomes a club legend. I am very pleased Poch recognises what he brings to the team, even if so many of our shit fans can't.
Abuse? What part of my post was abuse?

I'm not convinced of Ade being captain material because of his history, it was only a year ago he was being problematic with AVB. I'm more than happy if he proves to be worth his vice-captaincy, same with Kaboul with his captaincy but I don't see a particular reason why he's been chosen.
