People are getting a little hung up on being realistic, the question was who we would like. Had the question been who should we target the responses are likely to have been different. Who do I want to play DM next season? I personally dont know.

Lets not ridicule each others opinion on the basis of being realistic, we are in a strange position given the last 2 seasons 5th place finishes. I think players are sensible enough to realise we are not in a league position which really represents the quality of players here. Performances against the ar5ena1, Man utd, Liverpool and Chelsea have shown what the squad are capable of when not eating crappy food.

Make peace not war people, or do we have to have a group huggy?

That reminds me, still need to post why I picked those players but better do later when me mind isn't polluted but unimportant work stuff...!!!

Hamsik would be a wonderful signing, but not just on his own. We would need another one or two to compliment him and he them.

That means a complete overhaul of the midfield, which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing.....

Right, I meant to stick this in original post to try and explain my jumbled mind as to why I picked these players:

Christian Poulsen - haven't seen much of him but is proven quality in Uefa Cup competition and Spanish league. Only thing is he's probably off to Barca according to this thread and also even if he wasn't Sevilla probably would be a lil' reluctant to sell to us...

David Albelda - not really heard much of him to be honest mainly due to my lack of knowledge in regards to Spanish league. He'd probably be a short-term buy as in 30's I believe? (someone correct me if wrong). But he would probably be a freebie so that would be a bonus plus provide good experience!

Lassana Diarra - my choice out of the ones I put in the poll. Young, athletic, has a good pass on him, French international and proven in the premiership (currently playing very well for Pompey) but could we get him so soon after joining them and how much would his price tag be? The only disadvantage is that he's a little short (5'6 I believe). Also would he see us as a bigger team or another 'stepping stone'. Would be great to see him alongside Jenas in our midfield though! :hump:

Michael Carrick - I wouldn't say no to him coming back! The only negative thing I can remember is that when playing for us against rougher teams such as Bolton he'd sometimes go missing. He does have the bonus of having struck up a good midfield partnership with Jenas and might still prove to be the best option out of the lot though, who knows... Would Man U let him go (although if he gets fed up with sharing with Hargreaves would they have a choice?). A fantastic passer and might be the best choice out of the lot in terms of providing a better quality of service to Berba and Keano (don't let him take corners though as I don't know if it's just me, but I swear they weren't that good!).

Steve Sidwell - never linked to us to my knowledge but may be available at a reasonable price and provides bads of energy, has a good tackle on him and also while playing regularly for Reading in the prem bags a good amount of goals for a defensive midfield player. Nice to see 2 people voted for him 2!

Llama - strong, has heart, full of running - what more could you want really!

Isn't Wilson Palacios a defensive midfielder? If so then what is the point of this thread? :duh:
