I didn't see the point of continuing to play 4-5-1 when we were chasing the game. We needed to salvage something from the game, so playing Pav with Bent would have been the better option.

either Ramos is an idiot or the club screwed him. If this is the team he wanted - he's an idiot. If it isnt, the club isnt supporting him. Either way, we are in trouble. Im starting to think its all about the money - because I dont think Ramos is an idiot.

Yes we are very poor and directionless at the moment, but lets have a little perspective.

We all post with too much emotion on the day of the game. After beating a Newcastle team who in crisis, many people were giving Ramos 8 or 9 out of 10, today he is getting -2. Beating Newcastles wasn#t that great and losing to Pompey isn't a disaster in itself. Hopefully we'll have a bit more perspective tommorrow. The next 3 games before the international break, against 3 teams we should really beat, will decide things. But Ramos has a LOT of work to do

We all post with too much emotion because we all love this club so much. They have promised so much and delivered so little, thats why we can't help but get so frustrated with them when it looks like, too be honest, half of the team either don't care or aren't trying. This may not be true but at least if you battle and go down to a better side, you can hold your head up and be proud of them. At the moment it is embarrassing seeing your club perform with so little heart, soul or passion on the field.

I really want them to turn the corner and improve, but no matter how much "perspective" I try and put on it, I can't see where things can be improved right now. Once team moral drops because of poor performances, you can be an extremely good manager and still struggle to get the players ticking again. Unfortunately, that appears to be what is happening, and as much as I hate to admit it, I think Ramos doesn't have long to save his job. Some of you will shoot me down for this, but say we struggle through october and are still either bottom or in the relegation zone come november, do you not think the people at the top in the club will start to get a bit edgy??!?

I'm praying that won't happen, and Juande can work his magic (if he still has any) to get them playing and picking up points. I think that, as much as he loves the cup competitions, the league now needs to take priority.

hi nidge
we deffo deserved a point a point v sunderland & a point v wigan

and I don't think we deserved to lose the other four games (including the one we drew)

so we at least have the points we deserve and I think 3 4 or 5 wouldn't be unfair

today's pen was more clear cut than last week's which I'd say was 95% - this one was 100%

we were robbed and that's a fact (IMO)

Sorry but that must be the most biased comment I have seen on here in a long time. Most of the non-spurs fans I have spoken to have said that our performances this season mean we are exactly were we deserve to be.

Have they oh thats greatquote]
HI DW :) so why get inferior players in (on their performances this season) to replace them

you're the one who made the original claim not me :)
HI DC :hello: They may have performed badly but if you think Modric is inferior to any of those three CM i have named then i think you need to think again. The reason why Modric has performed badly is because he is still settling in to english football. And he doesn't have a decent player next to him in midfield everytime he has played with either JJ or Zokora he has looked terrible. If he was playing alongside Mascherno Essien Hargreaves or Carrick i think after a he settles down you would see the best of him.But playing alongside JJ or Zokora i really can't see that happening.

Guff. Swill. Shit.

Ah, what a great post to usher in my new 'Pat Van Den Hauwe' era on SC.

Perfectly true to the point & apt for today's result.

But we've been shit against a lot of teams who 'we really should beat'. Sunderland and Wigan spring to mind. I've been saying for the last month, give it a few games and let things come together etc etc, but today was the last straw. We have been shite for too long now and it isn't simply bad luck or a transitional stage. We have no direction, no strategy, no passion, no desire, no imagination. And thats why I think unless something big happens, things won't get better anytime soon.

Oh and Hull, Stoke and whoever we've got after that, are gonna be looking at the game against us as one they really should win. Thats how fucking clueless we are.

Gus seems to be saying that 'the management' feels Pav & Bent do not play well together on what they had seen in previous games (and training?). But surely anything is better than Pav trying to deal with a defensive partnership on his own all the time?

Hi DW :)

I don't need to think again - on the strength of this season's performances Modric has been inferior to JJ o'hara and zoko

I'm not saying as a player he is -

but to me JR has seen he has been struggling hence he correctly preferred the 3 mids I've talked about

I expect modric to start on Thurs - I hope he does well - then if he starts on Sun in front of any of the 3 mentioned - good luck to him again

but he has to do it - (And I'm not having a go at him cos I recognise it's diffiult settling to the prem etc)

Me too, but one positive, our support was amazing. Felt so proud to be a Spurs fan at Fratton Park today, we even got applauded by sections of the Portsmouth fans.

our problem is that we dont have enough players who hate to lose. we need hutton back, not because corluka is not a good player, he is, but because you get the impression that hutton would give these players a rollocking. we need to stop playing people who cant speak to their team mates. bentley is more concerned about the highlights in his hair than making the highlights of the game. The team should be as following until we can start picking up points:

gomes
hutton woody king bale (we need to start risking king as much as we can)
zokora (love him or hate him, he tries his best)
Lennon Ghaly O'hara (we I said it, ghaly.)
Bent Campbell

I say ghaly because he played with his heart. he threw his shirt because he wanted to play. he lost his teeth for the cause and kept playing. Im not knocking Pav, Modric or Dos Santos because i think they want it, but aren't quite ready yet, and need to be bedded in. He also had significant quality. If you watch his highlights, he can pick a pass, make a good run, can beat a man and has decent pace, and is strong in the tackle. he is also liable to a lapse in concentration, but we can forgive him that given the state of the rest of our team.

With regards to jenas, im nor a hater nor a lover, I just call it as i see it. yes today, there were several times where he would run forwards, his arms in an aghast shape, questioning his teammates for runs, and thats not his fault, he's entitled to demand that of his teammates. But as the original yiddster often says, he's not good enough in a the most important position on the pitch. lets look at the managers who have picked him regularily. Robson, Jol and Ramos havent had much of a choice - Ramos still needs to introduce modric properly, and once he gets into the flow, that OUGHT to be it for jenas. Capello has had some quite frankly bizarre choices, and neither him nor Sven chose him as a regular. for sven he was one of the guys to fill up the numbers, and under capello he is a bit part player. I think he's got good attributes, but nothing special or rather good enough.

Bentley is a waste of money and space. All those of you advocating his purchase of the summer for SUCH a massive amount of money were very very wrong. He was a great player for blackburn, but he was not needed. we could have and should have spent that money on other areas. We should also not have made so many changes, but hindsight is such a wonderful thing. Players like steed, teemu and chimbonda were hard, they were tough, they didnt like losing. Nobody could knock steed off the ball. a feather could knock bentley a mile. We need to resort to recently promoted tactics to get anywhere now.
