So, I’ve watched this a few times now, and something to watch for today - it’s an unbalanced back line.

It’s a clear design for the RB in this scenario to be higher up the pitch, while the LB, White, cuts in to be more of an inverted FB, and passing outlet.

I would expect the roles to be reversed when its Royal and Udogie.

I’d had a feeling Harvey White might be used like that. Interesting.

Viaplay Sweden is showing this game and the next vs Leicester. I'm guessing it would be the same for Viaplay Norway etc.

My initial thinking was that Ange would prefer Royal/Udogie since I think that provides better defensive balance (think Royal is our best defensive full-back) so was intrigued to see Porro/Regi in the "first team" line-up yesterday.

Mulling it over, I wonder if it's because Kulu is naturally better defensively and off the ball than Son? A left sided pairing of Son/Udogie might be overkill, whereas at least Kulu can more naturally rotate with/cover Porro, while Regi is experienced playing in a back 4.

I think if Udogie can handle the defensive side of the game then him and Royal could well end up being our number 1 full-back pairing, though. Still really not sure about Porro defensively in a back 4 and think every team in the league will be targeting him week after week.

I think the problems might happen when the more defensive player is on the right. As that would mean the left winger would have to play a more defensive role. Not sure Son and Solomon could do that.

E.g not too much balance playing Udogie LB Royal RB Kulu RW Son LW.

Looking forward to this.
I guess Son either has a little niggle or not deemed fit enough for this.
Tanguy probably injured himself yesterday in training a little worse than it seemed, or maybe it progressed once the adrenaline wore off

Ndombele misses out probably due to the knock he took yesterday. But no Son?

Interesting line up for sure but absolutely looking forward more to seeing some green shoots of clever interplay and quicker attacking intent in how we build attacks.

As much as you temper this with the fact it's our first pre-season game, there's lots to mull over here.

If 433; Bissouma as an 8. Been wondering whether he'll be a 6 or 8.
And whether Maddison as an 8 being more like a 10 in style,
means we need the other 8 to be more defensive in his approach.

Rodon, Spence and Dier not making the squad, they are probably bottom of the squad list as of now.
