I think we’ll have to agree to disagree, I think they were lucky to win that. They weren’t bad enough to lose it, but they did not deserve the win.
Literally. If that was others our match day forum would be horrendous. They played well for 25 mins then sat back and defended albeit poorly.

This narrative that everyone apparently thinks Arsenal are going to finish bottom half is wearing thin.

No one is saying that. They will most probably be up there with the likes of us, United and Chelsea, however their squad depth, lack of leadership and Arteta will see them fall short.

Last night was an absolute prime example of why. Yes, they won the game, but let's be honest they had a good opening 25 minutes and then were dominated until the 85th when they got lucky and fluked a second. Over the course of a season they draw/lose that game more times than they win it.

In regards to their squad depth it's pretty appalling considering they were only missing Tomyasu, ESR and Vieira last night. They have no game-changers from the bench, no midfield depth, and no obvious plan B to fall back on for games which aren't going their way.

I'm no more concerned about them than I am United.
Maybe if you draw it on a flip chart people will understand…

Are you saying your opinion about our entire season will be formed after one match (and pre-season)?!
No, not at all. I just haven’t seen anything in pre-season, that suggests we’ve made a stride forwards. And as it is only pre-season, I will wait and see how we play in a real game, before I can see how we’re gonna compete. You can twist it how ya like.

I've sent my wife and daughter out for the day. Gave them cinema tickets and a massage and told them to ha e a good long girls day day out just the two of them. I'm husband of the year all while being ridiculously selfish.

Me and my son will be camped out on the couch with beers and pizza from midday!

I would have been dissatisfied with the performance but having lost there 3-0 last season and having lost the opening game last season - id take the 2-0, away from home at a difficult place to go to, clean sheet to boot and move on.

But if we played liek that throughout the season where we start well and then kinda do nothing for an hour and do something for th elast five mins - id be pissed. I think we kinda did that with Jose where sometimes we got the goal and we just sat back. I think give Palace credit, they did well after the first 20 mins or so. They definitely need a striker and more creativity.

Fundamentally this.

Put it this way, i'll settle for a shitty game against the Saints if it means 3 points in the bag.
Me too all day long. A hard fought 1-0 will do just fine. I'll bet you a pound to a pinch of shit though that some on here will be reeeing like a stuck pig about how boring our football is etc etc.

A few injuries and they’re fucked.

Jesus looked exactly like I thought he would for them. People are forgetting his XG in a city team was comparable to benteke and he’s moved to a worse side so it shouldn’t get better. If anything it will get worse. He’ll score some goals and make their attack better but it won’t be the huge game changer they think it will.

It’s a good result for them, 2-0 away from home, playing palace when they had a few players missing. They were lucky to not be 2-1 down with Eze and Edouards chances which they both should have scored.

In all, performance wise though, I didn’t see anything in the performance to make me think they will be any better than last season. Now they have European games as well.

It's the first game of the season. They won 2-0 away at a tough, tough ground. That is all that matters. We don't need to convince ourselves we're not worried about them time and time again.

It is way too early in the season to have any certainty on how good they will be. Their quality of play was better than expected and they were giving Palace fits in the first 30. The ball was played quickly, players were supporting in excellent positions and the press was reasonably effective. Their defense did close down players quickly but there were communication errors between players probably in part due to unfamiliarity. All in all, they looked very good in the first 30 and then dropped off. As others noted, their real challenge will be playing in Europe with what appears to be an unproven bench. Not sure about the drop off after the first 11 but players improve so it is reasonable to assume that some of their younger players will have taken a step up since last year.
