I wasnt complaining against Arsenal. Loved those tactics. Poch went back to his tactics vs liverpool for this one and he rightfully paid for it. Should have employed the same tactics used against arsenal. Terrible tactics and terrible decision to start fazio when Vertonghen is very clearly our best defender. But he'll get a free pass on here like always.

Most people complained about the decision to leave JV out.

It was a bit like arsenals game against them last season. Looked like arsenal got thrashed based on the scoreline but in reality they were right in it.

Still a disappointing result whichever way you spin it but it's an improvement on last seasons performances against city

Lamela I'm willing to give more time given his age, but we may have to face facts that sometimes it just doesn't work out. Not always down to ability or the club, but sometimes it's just not the right fit. I fear this may be the case with Lamela.

Oh dear. I thought you were one of the sensible ones...?

He's had a couple of bad games but he's been excellent for the most part.

Never thought of that. Very similar to Arsenal's 6-3 loss.

We were good today..ive seen lots of improvement especially our front four and mason behind them. Still work to be done at the back but overall it may do us some good loosing to such a big margin even though were starting to play as team because it should spur us on to improve more. I honestly think that if we play how he did today against teams who do not have an aguero upfront and have not bought the ref we should win..

The scorelines another tough one to take but the positives for me underline the fact we have to tools to,really play well away from home and accumulate a lot of points.

But I still wonder how that front four will do against park the bus outfits at the Lane? Is there enough power and pace?

And Kaboul remains an accident waiting to happen against remotely good strikers.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "I think the first penalty after we scored made it difficult for us. We played 70 minutes when we were always in the game. Manchester City have very good players. The result was bad but there are a lot of positives to take.

"The first penalty for me was ridiculous but we need to accept the decision. We need to review the game - my feeling was it is not a red card. A lot of things happened. It's difficult to analyse.

"We always believed it was possible to get a point."
Pretty much how I saw it. I can see the players feeling they were unlucky today and taking heart from a lot of the work they did.

Yes, we lost 4-1 today. It was a thrashing if you look at the score line.

We have the knee-jerkers on here proclaiming Soldado is shit, Lamela is shit, Fazio is shit. No surprise there.

But, if you actually watched the match and you have an IQ above 1, you would realise that things could've been a lot different.

We had a go today. We troubled them, we had a penalty and multiple great chances against the title winners. Let's face it, the only reason we lost was because of one of the worst refereeing performances in PL history and because of the best player in the PL.

If Mason had scored, we could've got a much better result.
If Lamela had shot more quickly, we could've got something out of the game.
Soldado had a pen (albeit it probably shouldn't have been given), which he missed, but, again, we might have actually gone on to win the game if he scored.

These were just 3 moments and we had many more. Attacking-wise, we were great. Some of the movement and passing seemed new to me, since we hadn't played that way for a long time before this season, especially against one of the big teams.

If we look at City, they had:

A goal due to a Lamela mistake, but Lampard was in an offside position. However, it was pretty much all down to Aguero in the end.
A scored penalty that wasn't even a penalty.
Another scored penalty.
Aguero again.

If you actually look at the match again, defensively weren't that bad. It could've been a lot worse if it wasn't for good defending. And even if you look at the times they had chances, it was due to a counter-attack, because we were actually having a go.

We had nearly as many good chances as them and after what happened last season, where we did fuck all, I'm happy.

Soldado was great, but the ****s on here will look at the missed penalty. Please don't start Ade in the PL for many games.
Eriksen was brilliant- a big fuck you to the Denmark manager.
Mason was different class. Under the radar for so many years but not anymore.
Lloris was Lloris.
Rose, for the most part, was good again.
Chadli is looking a lot better as well.

So, thank you Tottenham Hotspur. Regardless of the result, I'm still proud.

I can't wait to see us more under Pochettino.

COYS.
Great Post.... last season was heart wrenching because we seen players give up at the first bad refereeing decision & went on to get a hiding. Today there was no lack of effort on the whole, even when the game was out of reach they showed pride in themselves to not lie down, that's progress. Do I like losing 4-1.. hell no! Do I like seen passion.. Hell Yeah... No Shame in today's result & sometimes you have to acknowledge the other team are better than us & deserve credit for been a quality team & the style of play City have is what makes football the game we all love. I can live with todays result etter t& performance.. Last season I couldn't because it was soul-destroying.. so the players deserve praise for there effort today. The better team won regardless of referee & we need to accept it & ignore excuses & feeling sorry for ourselves.. that's life.. shit happens.. move on

how many times must we go toe-to-toe and get thumped by the top sides until we realise that we just can't win by doing that? today wasn't terrible but it's highly unlikely that we'll ever get anything away to a team like city playing that way. we lost 4-1 and our goalkeeper was by a million miles our best player so it's difficult to feel proud even if we did try to go for it.

But he hasn't scored in the PL, which is what he was signed for. One in three at Roma -- zero for us so far. Easy to see why people might say it's not working, but I hope it does, and yes, he's doing OK with the assists. Again though, zero goals.

The scoreline does not reflect how we played. Any team up against Aguero who is simply superb (and a piss-poor ref) will have problems.

Yes, we make mistakes and missed some chances but the team really is beginning to gel and I think MoPo is doing a good job. Early days yet. Patience.

He has been better this season no doubt, hence whilst I'm willing to give him more time. I'm not writing him off as you can tell, I just have some underlying concerns about him that's all.

For me questions have to be asked re: consistent errors in the team over the last couple of seasons leading to embarrassing hammerings. City last season, Liverpool, Chelsea. What is frustrating is that the players don't seem to learn. A lack of belief, confidence, skill? For all the good football, we still look like we can take a severe beating every time we face a top 3/4 side.

Exactly! Hit the nail on the head here. Poch was incredibly naïve today just like he was against liverpool and in reality, he's been pretty naïve with his tactics this year and he's also failed with his subs this year(bar the forest cup match when he brought on Mason). We should not be going for it agaisnt the likes of city. That's just asking for a thumping.

Think you're overly generous to our defending but overall I'd agree. Just hope the players don't let their heads drop and come out flying against Newcastle.

Agree with OP...like to see same lineup next weekend with vert in obviously and Benji to get first start. Think mason and moussa might be good pairing as well, moussa looked good today he is so silky

Can see the point but at same time although they were dangerous throughout, we stood toe to toe for most part and with a couple better ref decisions and couple better finishes, Poch would be seen as the next coming, either way I still see him as such. In Poch we trust. COYS

Proud we got spanked 4-1? could have been a lot more if it weren't for lloris.

I'm not part of the "I'm proud my team got spanked again crew"

Just think aguero could of had 5 goals, getting beat 4-1 is nothing to be proud of

The thing is you can employ the same tactics against City but the thing is City are a far better side than Arsenal & they have enough quality to unlock our defense if we parked the bus. Personally I thought he was right to put pressure on there middle two especially Lampard as he doesn't have the legs to track back anymore.. so I can understand his thinking. As for Jan been left out, the first thing I thought is there's been interest from City in him.. but who knows what goes on behind the scenes, maybe the fact that t Kaboul & Fazio were not away on international duty & had ben working together in training during the Int Break & Jan only got back a few days ago, played into his thinking. It showed to Fazio he trusted him & believed in him to pick him for this game.. for squad morale that's not a bad thing.. if Jan doesn't start the next game we can start to question his non-selection.
