how many times must we go toe-to-toe and get thumped by the top sides until we realise that we just can't win by doing that? today wasn't terrible but it's highly unlikely that we'll ever get anything away to a team like city playing that way. we lost 4-1 and our goalkeeper was by a million miles our best player so it's difficult to feel proud even if we did try to go for it.

Totally agree. It's really not the wisest way to play. People seem to be happy though that we could have lost something like 5-8, because at least we created a few chances. End result is still the same though, and we really played into City's hands today.

Yes, we lost 4-1 today. It was a thrashing if you look at the score line.

We have the knee-jerkers on here proclaiming Soldado is shit, Lamela is shit, Fazio is shit. No surprise there.

But, if you actually watched the match and you have an IQ above 1, you would realise that things could've been a lot different.

We had a go today. We troubled them, we had a penalty and multiple great chances against the title winners. Let's face it, the only reason we lost was because of one of the worst refereeing performances in PL history and because of the best player in the PL.

If Mason had scored, we could've got a much better result.
If Lamela had shot more quickly, we could've got something out of the game.
Soldado had a pen (albeit it probably shouldn't have been given), which he missed, but, again, we might have actually gone on to win the game if he scored.

These were just 3 moments and we had many more. Attacking-wise, we were great. Some of the movement and passing seemed new to me, since we hadn't played that way for a long time before this season, especially against one of the big teams.

If we look at City, they had:

A goal due to a Lamela mistake, but Lampard was in an offside position. However, it was pretty much all down to Aguero in the end.
A scored penalty that wasn't even a penalty.
Another scored penalty.
Aguero again.

If you actually look at the match again, defensively weren't that bad. It could've been a lot worse if it wasn't for good defending. And even if you look at the times they had chances, it was due to a counter-attack, because we were actually having a go.

We had nearly as many good chances as them and after what happened last season, where we did fuck all, I'm happy.

Soldado was great, but the ****s on here will look at the missed penalty. Please don't start Ade in the PL for many games.
Eriksen was brilliant- a big fuck you to the Denmark manager.
Mason was different class. Under the radar for so many years but not anymore.
Lloris was Lloris.
Rose, for the most part, was good again.
Chadli is looking a lot better as well.

So, thank you Tottenham Hotspur. Regardless of the result, I'm still proud.

I can't wait to see us more under Pochettino.

COYS.

I get your passion but No one in their right mind
Can be happy with being thrashed again its all too frequent in My mind.
Its the same old shit play well up to a point thensomething goes against us and we fold nothing new there.
We are and always have been mentaly weak no manager can or has changed us this fella is no exception he has been brought in because he is
Mallable and will put up with what Levy decides
He has to deal with or get dumped with.
Yes todays result could have been different but those days when we used to be city home and away are gone now they use us to improve their goal difference because we are no match as money Does buy happiness.

Loads of positives from this game - but lots of learning opportunities too.

Mason really looks like he belongs out there. I hope he continues to improve - he could be our Schneiderlin.

Eriksen, after the shit he took this week, has really progressed under Poch - he is much more aggressive now than he was at the beginning of the season.

Fazio put in a good shift - it was a bit unlucky, but it was a foul - not a red card, and we have certainly seen more contact than that in the box not draw penalty, but can't sit here and say it was not a penalty. Vertonghen would not have made a difference today - if anything I would want to see Fazio and Vertonghen as a pairing.

Rose - slipped into some bad habits today, but also made some nice plays. We (and by we I mean, my guy Poch), should have figured out how better to defend the flanks - probably by dropping the outside AMs a little. Rose in particular, but Dier too, found themselves staring at 2v1 before help came back - need someone to cover those runs. Rose did get caught up field a few times. He tends to checkout of games when he gets frustrated - needs to understand shit happens, and every play requires effort.

Soldado is not the striker we need in these games. He has some lovely plays, and earned a penalty, but he simply is not a lone striker who can hold the ball up, or sit on the defenders shoulder and beat him in a race. Soldado could be great against teams that pack the defense - because he makes some sublime passes. I really rate Soldado, but his confidence must be at an all-time low - a change of scenery may be best for all involved.

Lamela has been beaten to death across multiple threads today. He had a bad game, and he hung his head. He so desperately wants to come good - and he has probably been our best player this season. He needs to shake this off, and learn that he can't hold onto the mis-plays. Great players move on to the next opportunity. Lamela tries to do too much at times - but I'd rather a player who tries to do too much, than a player who tries to do to little.

In the big picture - this was a good game, with a bad result. Aguero is world class. We got beat by a better team, but for a large portion of the game, we went toe-to-toe with them - we did not bunker, and try to eke out a draw. A draw may have been a (slightly) better result in the short-run, but in the long run, it was better to build on the philosophy, and our day will come.

You're not an exception mate :) . If anything my opinion is the exception.
Trust me, I didn't have this opinion about any of the thrashings last season and even after the 0-3 loss to Liverpool this season...

Citeh are a different animal though so result wise I wasn't expecting anything, if they turn up at home they score 4,5 or 6 no matter who the oppo are.
Just good to see us having a go and playing some decent football in patches, it was a lot more pleasing on the eye.
To dare is to do & all that....

I hate us losing too and so should all real Spurs fans.

But just looking at the 4-1 scoreline, as you and some others on here are doing, is short sighted and ignores the performance of the team today and the progress that has already been made under Poch in a relativly short space of time.

So where are you going with it then as this is the same shit as last year poor defending players making shit decisions and getting trashed so same as the last few seasons then.

If you can't see a difference in the football from the last few seasons to this then maybe should you should try watching another sport as football is clearly not for you :ROFLMAO:

Proud we got spanked 4-1? could have been a lot more if it weren't for lloris.

I'm not part of the "I'm proud my team got spanked again crew"

Just think aguero could of had 5 goals, getting beat 4-1 is nothing to be proud of
You could also say that we could've won if it wasn't for Hart.

He's probably been our best player so far this season

He's been good in a few matches but he's also been very poor in others, still has a lot to learn in this league. As waddle said next season will be the season to judge if he is going to be a star for us or not.

Was a few bright spots today but the way the team set up was far too open play a top side like city. Do the likes of west brom, west ham, stoke come to the lane and play like that? No they get men behind the ball play compact and limit the us getting behind them and it generally works. So why don't we do this against the top teams? We might nick a few result and we almost certainly wouldn't be letting in so many goals

Last year we were never in any of the games where we got thrashed, this year against City we were well in the game until the Fazio sending off. We also had some spells today where we played some good football.

If you really can't see any difference from the dross served up last season, then I suggest you go see your optician.

So your happy with our defence?

Your happy with creating 19 chances and scoring 1 goal?

Your happy that our best player was our goalkeeper?

You are deluded if you think the only reason we lost was because of the ref and their striker. They are in a different class to us

Maybe your IQ needs looking at :)

The bottom line is, when the dust has settled, we lost 4-1 and were bloody lucky it wasn't 7, 8 or 9. Thank our lucky stars we have HUGO!

Like usual all we're left with is hard luck stories, nothing changes eh....

I can only assume Vert was injured as I see no logical reason whatsoever for Fazio to start ahead of him, a defender even slower than Daws ffs. Did Poch not see the DVD of Aguero v's Daws from last season....?

Seems odd to bring Verts on when the game was already lost if he was injured.
