Even with no knees, he was head and shoulders above any other PL defender!
Pace, vision, passing, in the air, tackling...the list goes on. One of the classiest defenders of recent times, so much so that managers relied on him when he was rarely ever fully fit. He couldn't train for much of the time but was still a fabulous defender. Capello took him to a major tournament even though he knew he wouldn't be able to play him much. He said he's one of the finest defenders he's seen, and that's from an Italian!

Gooners I know took the piss out of me when I used to go on about how good Campbell was. Then he signed for them and was suddenly a defensive God.
As good a defender as Sol was, Ledley was different, truly world class.

Anyone who knows about football will tell you how he just oozed class.
God I love Ledders!!

Thinking about it, why even argue about it. Both of them were Tottenham youth players, both were England internationals when at Tottenham and both played more games for Tottenham than Arsenal. If they really think Campbell was better it's still an admission that we produce great defenders.

Ledley is one of the most complete players I've ever seen play the game. His knee condition is a real tragedy, but we all know without it he would have gone on to grace the finest clubs in the game - Campbell went on to Portsmouth, Notts County and Newcastle

No bias as I recognise that Campbell was an imperious defender in his own right, but Ledley was just a different class - up there with Maldini, Baresi, Puyol et al in the pantheon of the gods of defending
