The whole operation needs to be brought down. We need a new governing body, new personnel and a new way to elect leaders. They do realise that Qatar is a shithole and that no fans will go right?

It's not intended for fans. It's intended for a bunch of micro-brained oil-rich fuckwits to gawp at as they nod along to how their outdated attitudes towards sexuality and slavery have been given the FIFA stamp of approval.

I would love to see Messi or some other top players boycott the world cup as a protest at all the shenanigans and bullshit/corruption/sheer arrogance and greed of FIFA. Of course it's unlikely.

Edit: Of course he'll probably be retired by then, but you get the idea. Boycotting the Russian WC would also be good. The thing is a total irrelevance as a competition anyway, even though enjoyable as a festival of football.

Was that proven? Separate issue really anyway. If he has dodged taxes, let the spanish courts deal with it. FIFA have been taking the piss for years, someone has to make a stand.

Disappointing to see someone like Xavi selling his soul for this gruesome parody. I'm genuinely not going to be watching that world cup, I'll go watch Wimbledon and Brentford for a month.

In the Radio Times' Christmas issue, Beckham said: "Whether it's corrupt or not, those countries have been chosen. People need to get behind that.
"It's about bringing football to new countries. They should stick with it. They'll make it work."

Sorry mustard but I think you're being unfair by ignoring the very next sentence. I fully agree with him...it is all about taking the game to countries which haven't had the chance to stage something so big before. I have an issue with Blatter and co taking bungs but as far as awarding the world cup to countries such as south Africa, Russia and Qatar is concerned, I have absolutely no problems.

What about taking it to Australia or USA? They had technically better bids than Qatar. I think taking it to the USA would really boost the game there as the USA would stand a good chance of progressing in the tournament and football seems to be a lot more popular over there than it was in 1994.

If you let Qatar keep it than you might as well have the highest bidder to host the world cup.

Why?

I don't think they really go to improve those countries, they can just exploit them for a bigger slice of the pie. England deserves to host another World Cup and we've contributed more to the game. I don't see why it needs to be so political?

Qatar should never have been an option, the whole thing is a disgrace.

But didn't the corruption stop it going to Australia who have never had a tournament?

I would have noproblems with australia getting it. US have hosted a recent (in football world cup terms) event in 94....its time to give someone else a chance...same reason why I wouldn't pick England, France, Italy, Germany etc.
