Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are in superb form (If you listen to the pundits ) we are struggling apparently.
Table doesn't lie and I'm extremely happy with our 3rd place.
Only gripe is the Watford game and this one game is really pissing me off.

As amazing as Saturday was let’s follow it up with a win at arsenal. We haven’t won there for ages and would be an amazing achievement after playing Chelsea and whatever happens in the Inter game.

We can beat them but it will be hard after a tough week. If we don’t win though it doesn’t mean we still won’t finish above them either, which I think we will.

Reading arsenal mania (yes i feel dirty). Seems that emery is planning to take a fairly strong squad to vorskla. 4.5 hours by plane then a 4 hour coach drive and temperatures expected to be -13 degrees.

Nice.

It's daft what you have to do to get a 1.0 XG. Practically shooting at an open net with the ball under control. Lamelas was a volley at full stretch.

That much at least makes sense. 1.0xG should be literally impossible, as it'd mean a 100% chance of scoring i.e. it is physically impossible to miss. There's always a chance, even if it's very occasionally less than 1%, that instead he hit it too hard and strikes the crossbar rather than the empty goal, or trips over and sends the ball in entirely the wrong direction. More generally though, most people do grossly overestimate the likelihood of scoring from most positions. If all or even the vast majority of the shots people said "he really should be scoring" went in, we'd see a lot more games - including this one - finish with scores like 6-3 which are incredibly rare. Modern football is a very low scoring game - five clear chances and two goals (hence each of those clear chances being about 0.3-0.4 xG) is much more par for the course.

I think the most important thing about the goon match is not to lose, which could give them a lift. I would love a win against them, and hope for once the linesman will be awake as on 3 or 4 occasions this season they have gained points because the linesman has either not put his flag up, or shouldn't of.

as I posted in the game for game thread this is going to be a big month coming up, an opportunity to gain points on last season.

gotta say im impressed with emery. i thought it would take a year or two for a good coach to right the ship.

Too early to judge, they have been extremely lucky and I still think against top teams they'll struggle.

If we play like we did in the first 45 against the chavs if could be a bloodbath, they have been slow starters (apart from the pool game) and haven't had a lead at halftime

Watford is annoying. But on the other we got quite lucky in a few games with decisions and teams missing sitters. I’d say on the whole we are a tad fortunate to have 30pts. But then so are Liverpool and Arsenal to have their totals.

I think people just need to remember that although Saturday was amazing, we have been below par for a lot of the other matches this season. Let’s hope we push on and play consistently well after Saturday but I hope fans don’t get on the team’s back if we don’t. It’s a hard week and to play with the same intensity on Sunday will be really hard.

Can’t believe they will do a 4 hr coach journey on top of a 4hr flight if they do they are utterly f*** . UK time game finishes 8pm at best leave stadium 9.30pm. Airport 1.30 am land 6 am home in bed 7 am. If that’s the case their sleep pattern will be disrupted for at least 2 nights. And that timing is probably best case scenario. Considering it’s -12c and a war zone anything could happen ?

There is no way of saying it without sounding bitter, but as impressive as Emery has been I think they are getting quite lucky.

Both Liverpool and Bournemouth had good goals disallowed and Wolves smashed the bar late on in their 1-1 draw. They are a good side, but the luck is certainly with them right now.

They’ve been incredibly lucky. Just the fact they haven’t led a single game at ht tells you that. They could easily have 8-10 pts less. Can you get lucky a whole season, probably United and Burnley did last season. I’m more worried about their luck than Emery.

As it stands, they're on course for 79 points on their current rate, and they're still fifth. I'm sure it won't pan out like that but it would be unprecedented, although I think they've finished 4th on 79 before. We'll see how good they really are and hopefully we can play to our best level and beat them nicely, but it seems to me it is as much an indictment of how crap most of the league is.

I think we just need to get a positive result away against arsenal and beat them at home. Its quite an important 6 pointer really.

The highest points total ever for the 5th placed team was 75: Arsenal again, in 2016/17. We finished 2nd with 86 points.

Not quite sure where the best place to put this is, but Mike Dean is reffing the NLD again.

Cue him yet again giving contentious decisions against us because someone on the internet a few years ago accused him of being a Spurs fan.

Genuinely can't believe he's been given this game again after last season's shambolic performance in the fixture.
