Mattspur...if you find it offensive youa re entitled to your view. But no-one is blindly showing support to a player who has been racist, like the Liverpool fans did. There are some very cnmplex arguments connected with this issue. As I have stated, above, there are Jewish Spurs fans who have absolutely no problem with this, or are quite happy with it. And there are non-Spurs supporting Jews who have absolutely no problem with it.

For perspective, I guess I do it because I always have and everyone else does. If there as some kind of genuine concensus that we shouldn't do it, and not some half-arsed argument by David Baddiel, I am sure I could live without it. But I think Spurs fans should know and be proud of why it was taken up in the first place, and the Nazi Chelsea fans should know and be ashamed of what they did/do.

Obviously no one is supporting a player who has been racist. What I was suggesting is that as a majority, our fans are blinded by our tribal mentality (Jewish or not). There is nothing anyone can say to make them change their opinion on the subject. I could pose many questions and scenarios which would highlight the inappropriate nature and use of the word and they would find an excuse as to why it doesn't apply in his case.

Rather than looking at what Chelsea are doing, lets keep our own side of he street clean.

Ive spoken to some in Israel and ive seen them join in with the chants at park lane.

All i hear about Jews outside of the spurs fanbase, is they're greedy, war mongering weirdos. The amount of anti semetic abuse thats just accepted as a joke is ridiclous. People openly calling eachother greedy jews and having jew noses. What do we see on tv? Family guy taking the piss aswell as South Park. Imo these shows are alot worse than Spurs fans calling themselves Yids. How many jewish people feel unsafe to wear their Kippahs at WHL?
I hear this too and that's a good reason not to adopt the chant. If you can be arrested for calling someone a yid it suggests the term is offensive. Frimpong was charged by the FA even though it's obvious he meant no harm. Adopting racial slurs and trying to make them acceptable causes confusion because it makes some people think that those kind of terms are suddenly acceptable.

Ye and i see this point aswell.

I just feel within spurs, the rules kinda change. On matchday when you see the star of davids, the spurs kippahs, the chants...it just makes it hard for us as spurs fans, to see the negative in us singing it. Again, i do agree with what you say, i just feel in Tottenham its ok and untill there are protests and demos and big voices claiming different within whl, i dont see it changing.

The facttaht Spurs fans can be tribal in their response (all, most, or some) does not mean that any counter-argument to Mr Baddiel is moribund.
You also have to realise that it does touch upon the very basis of our identity - when you see another Spurs fan in the street, especially if they are a bit thin on the ground, it is an instant reaction to think/shout Yiddo, just the sane as Goons fans seegin another ArseScum fan would htink/shout Gooner. It will be hard to change such a basic instinctual reaction - even if you believe it should be changed.

I think the reaction to Mr Baddiel is that, you think we should keep our side of the street clean, I think Baddiel should be making 40 programmes like this specifically about the vile abuse, and maybe, just maybe, at the end of the last one, interject that maybe, now, Spurs fans could jettison it - that would be putting it in perspective from his side of the street IMHO.

I am 6'8 and been on the end of many insults, bullying and the likes growing up, regardless of colour, race, fat, thin, tall, small, ginger, whatever, everybody is someone elses nigger. No matter who you are or what you are, somewhere, someone will hate something about you and this is the only thing that makes everyone on the planet truly equal.

How you deal with it is far more important that what is said, because at what point do you draw the line? Everything you say could be offensive to someone else, does this mean that we can't tell jokes anymore? Does this mean we can't discuss anything in case it offends someone?

Should we live in a dull grey and dreary society devoid of anything that may or may not offend someone? As this is where it is going, as far too many people think they are more special than anyone else and deserve special treatment.
Is that 68 or a typo resulting in 6'8?

David Baddeil talking about how Spurs singing Yid Army and Yiddo is offensive.

Slating Spurs fans for using the words even though he admits it was Spurs taking it back from the likes of his own club Chelseas fans to use their racism against them. Admits to Chelsea fans singing anti-jewish Spurs songs, but is more interested in attacking Spurs for not trying to stop our fans using them than maybe looking at his own club to kick out their racists who sing their songs and make the hissing sounds.

Nice and impartial.

I can understand Jewish fans being upset with the words being used, but at the same time many have voiced the fact they use the words and chants as a positive expression of their support.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this??

Yeah , Badiel is a second rate attention seeker and anybody who really gets worried about that chant obviously has very little to worry about .

P.C. rubbish and frankly I'm sick of it .

How about people like Baddiel go out and do a real job rather than ponce off TV license payer money which is extorted under threat of imprisonment ?

There is meant to be a recession on and belt tightening , why are they paying this luvvy public money when tens of thousands of people died due to fuel poverty last Winter ?
