Didn't people get upset with AVB's boring football? From what I've seen of Benitez' teams, he is just as boring

in 2008/09 Liverpool scored 77 goals and had a GD of +50.. The best in the league. The year before that they scored 67 and had a GD of +39.. The 3rd best in the league. so essentially playing well defensively and scoring lots of goals.. yep ... boring as hell... I might also point out that Liverpool scored 18 goals in the group stage of the CL. beat inter 2-0, beat arsenal in the AF and lost to Chelsea after ET in the semi.. Gerrard and Torres scored 57 goals between them... yeah.. I'd hate to have a manager with such a reputation for being so boring...

The year we qualified for CL, Liverpool still had the same GD as us but finished 7th..

at chelsea.. after he took over at end of nov they scored 51 league goals ending the season scoring the 2nd most and with the 2nd best goal difference. They won the europa league and qualified for CL... I could go on

Benitez is one of the most underrated managers out there. I'd likey alot. Still got a Klinsmann itch to scratch though.

I'd take Benitez all day, very much doubt he would leave Napoli for us though.

Maybe not but its worth trying surely? He's the most successful and experienced manager we'd have even a slight chance of getting. It's a no brainer imo. Unfortunately, although Levy is a very clever chap, when it comes to choosing managers and their working environment, he tends to remove his brain on a regular basis.

I hate to say it but watching Chelsea yesterday and how negative they were makes me remember the flair the Chav's played wtih under Benitez... I think I would take him at this moment... especially now LVG looks UTD bound

Don't need stats to prove whether or not its boring football, all I need to do is watch games he manages, which is why I have come to that conclusion

Oh BTW I'm not saying he is a bad manager, just saying that some of the football he can play is relatively boring, a bit like AVB. Could be what we need for stability, but I don't think its what most fans want in football playing wise

ok.. you are clearly blind or most probably picking up on what someone else said, ie a common misconception, and sticking to it...

I was set on LVG, but since that seemingly isn't coming to fruition I have started to come round to the idea of Benitez quite strongly.

well most fans that haven't a clue, will eventually come round to the idea when we stop letting in large amounts of goals against our direct rivals and play with some sort of coherent game plan.

To be fair, one of the main reasons Liverpool didn't win the league under him (when they really should have) is that they were often reluctant to take risks and hence drew far too many games.

As I said above though, I would be pleased if we were to appoint him as our next manager.

Yes I am against letting in a lot of goals obviously.. No I'm not blind or a liar, but nice of you to result to insults.. He is a good manager and has won a lot of accolades, but when I watch his teams that don't really thrill me and find a bit boring.. Two different opinions, oh my god no way is that allowed?! No need to get rude

Agree. Something that really winds me up at the Lane is the call to 'shoooot' whenever a player gets into any sort of range. Its embarrassing, and happens when we are trying to pick a defence apart and has resulted in fans getting on players backs and forcing them into such a shot, which invariably comes to nothing. I'd rather we took our time and moved the ball around.

This. Why would he leave Napoli for us? He'll be playing CL with them and probably will add to an already impressive squad next season.

Wouldn't mind him btw. Proper manager, great tactician. Would get the best out of Soldado.

At my age I will take boring if it brings results, instead of hiding behind the settee for most of my life and wishing I supported Barcelona
