Add the pace of Njie, Sonny and potentially Berahino and Eriksen's return and we look good. Add a CM to give us options (we have a lot of games if all goes well). I'm very positive about this season.

We were dominant through most of the match and should have won 2-0, but very good Everton defending and poor shooting cost us 2 points.

People tend to notice defensive mistakes, of which here were very few (Everton's only ones leading to our two obvious spurned chances), but overall both teams' defences had a grip on the game, Everton defending deep and filling every gap, Spurs, largely thanks to a fine space-consuming performance by Dier, keeping the opposition attackers almost entirely out of our penalty area and in front of them. This is why we need to play with a controlling/defending/passing midfielder. If Dier continues to play like this, he may find himself in that role on a more permanent basis.

Lloris - 6.5 - not much to do; one fine save; erratic distribution

Walker - 6.5 - defended well, attacked sporadically

Vertonghen - 7 - good match, including one ambitious and impressive sortie forward

Alderweireld - 7 - similarly good match to Vertonghen - solid partnership

Rose - 7.5 - close to MotM, positionally sound, raiding effectively, tackling fiercely and always an outlet for Lloris

Dier - 8 - MotM - dominated large areas of the midfield, spent a great deal of time on the ball and used it wisely; he is learning that, as a DM, you have to confront the opposition, not wait for them to come on to you - this made a great deal of difference

Bentaleb - 6 - many good touches, but sometimes a good bit of play would be followed by lack of concentration

Chadli - 7 - the focus for all of our attacking play in the first half; faded somewhat after an hour

Mason - 7 - there were a lot of people moaning, in anticipation of the match that we would move the ball slowly, but we didn't, we were usually direct and fluent when an opportunity arose; much of the reason for this was Mason playing in an advanced position

Dembélé - 6 - before his injury, he did little wrong, but also spent little time in his notional position on the right, leading to all of our attacks coming up the opposite side, as Walker had no support and no one to overlap with - I only counted two occasions when I was calling out for him to pass the bloody ball, which is relatively few for Dembélé

Kane - 6.5 - did everything right except score - the fluffed one-on-one was a key moment early in the match - I knew it, the crowd knew it and Kane knew it - but his hold-up play and team work were exemplary

Alli - 7 - energetic and direct

Pritchard - NET

I liked the movement of Mason and with a bit of luck would have ended up with a couple of goals. I think we should think about Mason operating in this area permanently, he has a pass in him, good energy and movement and also offers tactical flexibility with his work rate and tenacity.

Thought Dier pulled of his best game in a Spurs shirt yesterday imo. Some of the long balls he sprayed about were in the same league as Carrick. Not sure if his long term role will be in front of the back 4 but is definitely someone who could fill in there when required. Hands down my MOM in what I think was an 8/10 performance for Spurs as a team as a whole

Good to have Rose back, always been good going forward, but the defensive side of his game is improving all the time and gives us confidence in defence. Also Jan & Toby looked like a true partnership for the first time. Walker had a better game, one massive cock up nearly cost us a goal, would maybe give him another game before looking at Trippier

Mason had a good game too, got forward well, linked reasonable well, and was unlucky not to be o score sheet and was a close second to getting MOM.

Best performance of the season for me, gives me confidence for the rest of the season and for what MP is building.

Very exciting if Son can ht the ground running and if we get we can sign SB perhaps the days of dreaming could be behind us.

Don't understand the slagging of Chadli. Was at the game and he seemed for large parts to be our only attacking outlet. Dembele on the other hand did what he normally does and slow it all down and doesn't get forward enough to play in that position.

Also, great to see Danny back, really happy he's kicked on the way he has. People shouldn't of been so hard on him. Good to see walker finding his feet again as well... Again, people shouldn't be aggresively writing players off. Bentaleb being the current flavour of the month for that.

Pritchard looked good as well when he came on, we're in desperate need of a bit of pace.

Yesterday, our young team showed more hunger to win and we were unlucky and with better finishing, we should have won!
I must say that this was indeed a very encouraging display.
Rose, DIER, Bentaleb, Alli, Pritchard, Kane... Are still young and the future is looking bright for the lilywhite!
There no one that gets less than 7 but M.O.M was DIER.
I still think that DEMBELE is the most unappreciated and under-rated player in our squad.
Bring on the next game...

I don't have much to add to the general consensus . Yes Chadli (6.5)is getting unnecessary stick here . For me it was one of his best performances ,well for an hour .

For me ,there was one of the best passes I've ever seen.... by Verts (6.5) , second half . You do wonder what we may be missing . Imagine a motivated Verts in midfield , as Wenger suggested . Incredible footballer (if he wants).

Mason really tries to be too cute with his chances in the box generally, always looks to place them. Really should just put his foot through one and once he gets a few goals, I reckon he could become a consistent scorer.

Great comment on Dier and absolutely what we have been missing.

Have seen quite a lot of negativity on social media from our fans after this game, yes not scoring and getting the win was frustrating but there were a lot of positives for me:

Most coherent, cohesive performance from us this season (and thus the best to watch so far imo)
Played Everton off the park at times, just didnt get the goals our performance deserved
Kane had good chances, we know he will score eventually
Mason impressed as a 10 and another day could have had two goals and an assist
Rose grew into the game and improves our left side going forward, dealt with Kone well
Bentaleb had his best game this season
Dier's best performance yet in the DM position, and I love his attitude. Future Spurs Captain
Dembele was looking good before his injury, hope he's not out too long
Dele Alli caught the eye when coming on, nice see to a youngster from L1 thrown on before our record signing, although the transfer rumours surrounding Lamela may have played a part
Vertonghen's best game in a while
Pritchard's first game this season, hope to see more of him,

and we still have Son N'Jie Wimmer Trippier plus no doubt more signings to come in and bolster the squad and challenge for places

Finally Jamie Redknapp and Thierry Henry's opinions on us are irrelevant, could only laugh and hit the unfollow button when one of the biggest most reactionary Poch Out Twitter users started ranting and raving and agreeing with them.

I think as someone else pointed out on this forum DM is sort of a third centre back providing cover for the back two and given Dier's aggression, mobility as well as pretty decent passing range it shouldn't be to much of a surprise that he is the most suited player in our squad for this position currently.

What has surprised me is the positional decision making from him which normally takes time has come along really well, that is where I thought he might struggle a bit but full credit he nailed it yesterday.

Another game we absolutely controlled and should have won. I can't fault our possession the chances we created and our general play apart from putting the ball in the back of the net.

Defensively we looked more solid. I felt Vertonghen played much better been a long time since I've said that with the knowledge that this current system employed Dier slip back into position when he is caught out.

Dier was a beast... Wow!! he is such a good footballer still hear comments like yeah he played well motm but his no DM and we need to buy...it's reminded me of what people said of Bale and Rose where both changed position and excelled.

Lloris 5 distribution need serious work kicking was poor.

Walker 5 I'm starting to see the cold light with Walker nearly cost us a goal with sloppy control that allowed cleverly a chance to score. Going forward also his crossing and choice of pass was pretty damn poor....I would like to see what Trippier can do.

Alderweireld 8 I like him never thought he'd be this good quick and strong enough, seems like a proper defender.

Vertonghen 8 the best game Ive seen from him since his first season at Spurs and not because of the run from defence and shoot...thought he marshell Lukaku out of the game.

Rose 7 undisputedly the best full back at the club solid...Walker are you watching

Dier 8 motm seriously impressed, tackling passing covering controlling tempo of play work rate do we need another DM I don't think so.

Bentaleb 6 still not playing to his best, it was a bonus he was playing beside an in form player (Dier) games will do him good.

Chadli 6.5 frustrating because he had the beating of the full back ever time he was on the ball. Couldn't up his gear near goal and played within a certain comfort zone.

Mason 6.5 run beyond the main striker gave a superb weighted assist of Kane's one on one, had about 3 scoring chances but failed. If Mason can add goals to his game he'd be talked up much more it's the real missing element to how he plays.

Dembele 5 yes he was strong etc etc but wasn't at all a goal threat personally or by assistance... Much rather Lamela.

Kane 7 I thought he's all round game apart from scoring was good and I believe the goals will come. Got into a great position to be one on one once he gets that first one he'll be flying again.

Pochettinho 7 can't fault our domination football it's pretty conventional and effective just need a bit more pace and more goals.

Really want to see Trippier given a chance, and only because he has more variety with what he can do in the final third. If Walker can't get to the byline and cut it back he is completely pointless with the ball at his feet.

I know Kyle gets on the ball a lot and is a tidy passer but I'd rather have a fullback with 70% pass completion and a few chances created than one with 85% of safe passes completed. Trippier will be wasteful but he has another dimension to his play that would make a lot of sense the way we attack down the right.
