Disappointing from pretty much all in truth, and time to realise that most Mourinho games will be like this- two chances created, and if we don’t score first it will be a struggle.

We have no creators, with GLC and TN both unfit.

I gave it to PEH, for battling away. Son was good initially. The CBs did OK apart from the decisive moment. Doherty should have scored but in that move showed why we signed him.

If only we had signed another striker in time, that would have sorted this mess out.....

Exactly... it wouldn't have and we dont even seem to be looking at players who will help.

If the window ends and we havent signed a midfielder to help with our serious problems with creativity then we arent getting anywhere even close to the top 4. We will even struggle to make top 6.

First half was fine. Nothing spectacular but we looked reasonably competent with Son in particular being a nuisance. Dele wasn't spectacular but neither was he having a shocker and so the decision to take him off baffled me, he is one of the few players we have who can create something from nothing.

Second half was awful, no intensity or pressure. It was on par with some of the poorest performances from last season.

The positive from me is that I like the look of Doherty, a shame he got subbed but I thought he looked good and should do well for us.

Forgive me for not panicking, but this is a team that has basically had little to no pre-season together due to internationals/quarantine

Our last game against Watford - which should have been a final run out for the majority of the first team - was made up of a hodge podge of available players

Doherty was signed and went off to international duty, along with PEH and many of the squad. Our main creative outlet, GLC is injured, and Kane was quarantined for two weeks before he disappeared for the national team (they really need to sort out the international calendar), meaning he's probably short of match fitness

Hardly a surprise the performance was as bad as it was, given how little time the team has had to gel

Doherty is our most interesting signing of this window and he showed some of the attacking talent he became known for at Wolves. He plays good passes inside and then doesn't stand still (which is novel for us!). He makes good runs to offer an option after the pass that create decent chances for himself or others. As long as Mourinho doesn't 'tactic' that out of him, he should be an upgrade on this position for us.

PEH is probably fine, but I don't get the hype about him on here. We got him from a mid-table side after a middling career so far. People often mention Bayern, but he only played a handful of times there. He did ok at Southampton, and hopefully he can continue to progress, but we'll see how he compares to other deep midfielders this season. Maybe the key thing about him is positional discipline, but it would be great if the player paired with him had a bit more attacking freedom in that case.

Moura plays like a defensive inside right forward, which must be a unique tactical development in world football. It was the tactic for the lop-sided full back approach and if that is a new norm, then I suspect Moura has this role locked in. It's not a creative role as such, so Moura shouldn't be hammered too much for delivering what is asked of him. He stays narrow and hassles opponents, dribbles when he can, and leaves space for the full back.

And lastly, Hart on the bench ahead of Gazzaniga was telegraphed and is depressing. He's not better than him and is stopping Gazza's progress. Doesn't really matter until Lloris isn't fit, I suppose.

Lloris 6 - didn't have much to do apart from pick ball out of back of net, and hope Richarlison left his shooting boots at home (and he had)
Doherty 5 - Had our best chance of game, but playing too far forward, and defensively non-existent. If he plays we really should go to 3 at the back and play wing back on other side.
Toby 4 - Slow, ponderous, didn't even make an effort to jump for the goal despite being the goal-side defender
Dier 5 - Slightly better than his partner
Davies 3 - Worst performance I have seen from someone that is usually a steady dependable 6 or 7 out of 10 player

Hojbjerg 3 - Possibly the worst debut of a Spurs player I have seen
WInks 3 - Just not, and never has been the quality of player we need, but was exceptionally poor today

Dele 5 - Actually thought was very harsh he was removed at the half, and there were more worthy candidates for Jose to scapegoat for his tactical errors.
Son 6 - Liveliest of our forward players
Moura 4 - Just anonymous

Kane 5 - One extra than probably deserves for glorious return pass to Doherty

Bergwijn 4 - Did he even touch the ball ?
Sissoko 5 - Was doing well on the right, when moved more central went same way as Winks and Hojbjerg
Ndombele 5 - At least he tried to pass forward
Glad about your comments on Toby and Dele, I was feeling alone with both these thoughts.

Not worth putting in individual ratings, everyone was terrible.

Special mention for the special one though. I get what he said about the lazy pressure and I get that he was unhappy with the performance. I can't, however, understand what he was actually looking for with this team? We are not set up in any way. We don't seem to have any game plans. He stuck the right back wide and attacking in the first game against West Ham, and that's the only attacking tactic he's employed since.

It seems his philosophy is keep it tight and pray that Kane, Son, Alli or Moura will pull off a worldie at some point in the game. If they don't, or if they're slightly below par, we look like we're utterly clueless.

His subs yesterday were baffling. Alli wasn't playing well and I get the feeling he may turn into his Spurs Pogba, but why take him off for Sissoko? At least bring on Bergwijn!

I'm not one for doom and gloom and I am one of Jose's original advocates. When all were moaning last year I was saying lets wait etc. However I get the feeling that this is going to be a very long season. I found us utterly unwatchable yesterday.

I gave it to Doherty because he had a good first half; they all went to sleep in the second half so hard to mark him down for that.

As many have said, this lop-sided adventure tactic needs to stop. If we want to play Doherty, we need to sign a LWB and play 3ATB. Otherwise teams with decent wingers/wide midfielders will have plenty of joy against us, especially with Toby and Dier’s pace (or lack of).

I've been supporting Mourinho this whole time, but that was a very stupid sub and I think it's what costed us the game. Replacing Dele with Sissoko effectively put an end to the few, but good, chances we were creating.

If he really thought Dele wasn't doing his job properly, then he should have called Bergwijn or Lamela.

First half wasn’t that bad with Son lively and Doherty looking decent. Dele was frankly poor and no great surprise he was pulled, with him and Moura we look so ponderous and wasteful with the ball but they both ran around a lot.

Second half we just had no shape at all and all too slow. Can’t for the life of me understand why the defensive line was set so far forward for their goal. Thinking with ball put into that area should have been Hugo’s but at least would expect Toby and Dier to get off the ground.

Positives Doherty looks good, PEH put himself about and Bergwijn again showed he is a footballer. James showed what a decent ball player can do, if only we had one.

A lot of users rightly highlighting the poor performances, but I think Aurier, Lamela and Sanchez did okay.

I think what you described as Mourinho's philosophy is correct. 'Keep it tight and hope the AMs + Kane do something'. It is the same pattern from last season.

Mourinho's post-game interview was ok. He agrees with us that the second half was awful. His reasons include lack of time to prep due to no pre-season, which led to low fitness levels. He said some players got COVID while others had to isolate.

Those were all good reasons but other teams would have had similar problems but it seems to hit us more.

If you told me two years ago that we were going to get rid of Dembele, Wanyama, Vertonghen, Rose and Eriksen, and start the season with their backup players in the first team - Sissoko, Winks, Dier, Davies and Lucas - well....you can see why we lost.

I missed the game yesterday and my Sky Box FAILED the recording so I have not seen the shit show, but what worries me is that it was the first game of the season and If we were not up for that then we have big problems.
