Cudicini 4 - "Uh oh" comes to mind, hopefully a one off!

Corluka 5 - Far too casual at times.

King 6 - Made one class challenge.

Woodgate 7 - Awesome header for the goal.

Ekotto 6 - Great cross but has a tough night, mainly due to Luka leaving him exposed.

Lennon 8 - Our main threat, only outlet and we only looked like scoring when he was involved.

Palacios 7 - Quiet first half but imposed himself in the second.

Jenas 6 - Nothing special but nothing bad.

Modric 7 - In and out of the game but a tenacious performance.

Keane 5 - Never really came off for him tonight.

Bent 5 - As above really.

None of the subs made any impact.

We were alright, and we won. Nothing special though. Lennon caused consternation, Palacios harried and hassled and Luka probed and passed neatly. Up front we didn't look too sharp and Carlo flapped a few times at the back. But have to be happy with three points!
Cudicini 5.5, BAE 6, Corluka 6, Woody 6, King 6, Modric 7, Palacios 7, Jenas 6, Lennon 7, Bent 5, Keane 5.

.

but it wasn't a one off - I and lots of people have already pointed out how shaky he was v bolton

in that game we let in 3 - he could have done better for at least 2 of those goals

it was known before he arrived he wasn't the best at dealing with crosses and big physical teams - he still ain't - in fact he's probably one of the worst in the prem

I'm just praying Gomes has a couple of wonder games now and changes Harry's mind

It's not the goalkeepers that are the problem, but that none of our players makes it hard for the opposition to go up freely, no marking, no figthing or ugly tricks. Teams must love to play against us...

cudicini - 4 Was not good. Gomes back please
Corluka - 5 He was great, flawless in his first games with us...now what was cool before has become carelessness - get the balance right and he's great
King - 6 to imagine that he never trains and comes on and plays at such a high level is amazing in itself, and such a shame for football that he won't ever get to play to his potential
Woodgate - 7 Nice to see how he cares
BAE - 7.5 - MOM because he gets it right (the football, not the hairdoos). Solid with some streaks of flair that count, like that cross
Palacios - 6 - alright, a bit muddy 1st half, 2nd half getting better
Jenas - 7 - rather good I though in his all-around role, didn't stand out, but really worked the pitch. Only saw it on tv (well, stream) but imagine that if I'd seen him off the ball he was doing things
Modric - 6.5 - off and on, quality with some end product
Lennon - 6.5 - can be dangerous, can be invisible
Bent - 5.5 - not really doing it nowadays
Keane - 6 - not really doing it either

subs - no impact

good points Erik - the keepers must take some of the blame but we play too soft on set pieces too often and refs just seem to let the oppo rough us up

that sounds namby pamby - and I am a bit, like spurs

but it's true I tells ya - it's true :)-

Pretty much agreed though I'd give Keane a 6. I think he really needs a goal to get a bit more confidence.

Why is everyone seduced by Cudicini, he is not Gomes's class. He is like a kid at set pieces, can hardly get to the ball.

Goals change perspective. Well they do for many; for the rest of us they just change the result. The reality is that we deserved no more than a draw from this game after an absoloutely dire first half in which we showed little heart and no head at all.

So many times in that first half we just needed to keep the fucking ball. Pass it back to a CB and work it around, take the heat out of Hull's hussle and bussle. But everyone - including the usually cool Corluka - just treated the ball like a hot potato.

The second half we actually came out and started to play properly. We were passing the ball around much better and controling the game. As has often been the case, final ball and the strikers inability to hold it let us down ultimately when we were controlling the game and Phil Brown reacted intelligently and tactically outwitted Redknapp by going 451 and preventing our midfield from dominating as easily as it was.

I'll take the result today, as we deserved to beat both Bolton and Arsenal.

Ratings:

Cudicini 5 - Had plenty of crosses to deal with and didn't really deal with any of them very well. I have no problem with a keeper coming out and trying to deal with stuff. It's what I love about Gomes. If he makes a mistake he keeps coming and invariably deals with it effectively. Cudicini was clearly rattled and it showed. If nothing else I hope this game dissmisses the stupid bullshit belief that Cudicini is more reliable than Gomes.

Corluka 5 - Worse game in a spurs shirt.

Woodgate 6 - Not a great game in all honesty but a very valuable goal.

King 6 - As above, - goal.

Ekotto 6.5 - Again, not great but good skill and cross for the goal.

Lennon 6 - again, not a blinder but a great goal. Failed to deliver effective crosses when in good positions a couple of times.

Jenas 6.5 - Industry, but little else of quality.

Palacios 6.5 - As above.

Modric 6 - Flitted in and out. Mostly out.

Bent 2 - waited 60 minutes for him to have a meaningful touch of the ball. That was the last one. Dog shit.

Keane 4 - Dog shit with a little icing.

Subs - Pointless rating.

Redknapp 5 - Bent starting was poor. No GDS on the Bench was poor.
Didn't have them drilled tactically for the first half. 4 points for giving them the bollocking they deserved at half time.

Have to agree, even more so in a game that requires a physical presense and the ability to come off your line, catch or punch the ball and ease the pressure from your defence.

You ask any Chelski fan about Cudicini and they will say he's a great shot-stopper but is not confident coming for and claiming crosses. Sounds like our other keeper, doesn't he?

Keane will continue to have these 6/10 games until he's playing next to someone who is A) Intelligent on the ball i.e. Berbatov, or B) Good at holding the ball up and winning balls for him to volley in. i.e. Kenwyne Jones or Heskey.

The same old weaknesses were there but hey, it's an extremely vital win and it doesn't matter how we win now, it's just winning that counts. We can hopefully iron out the reoccurent problems in the summer - providing we stay up.

For me, BAE was the main man tonight. Overall, his performance was excellent and it's weird reading some others saying he was shit. The beauty of football opinions i suppose.

BAE, Palacios and possibly Modric were our better players today & Lennon scored a great goal - everyone else was ok-ish.
