Some of the apoplexy in the match thread was hilarious. What do we expect, the FA Cup is at the bottom of our list of priorities. It takes more effort, but for the same reward as the League Cup. It certainly isn't as vital as conditioning ourselves to play against European opposition, be that in the Europa or CL, but all three of these cups cede importance to the Premier League.

If Poch had played Kane, Eriksen, TA etc in this game and they'd have got injured it would have been a fucking idiotic thing to do. We also have to keep fringe players sharp and develop younger players. It's about the medium and long term as well as the now.

This was just one of those typical cup games. We put out a side of back ups and kids, came up against a plucky lower league team in good form with nothing to lose who had a go. We still dominated the ball, we still tried to play on the front foot, but early on they had a bit of bluster about them and made life a bit tricky and got a couple of breaks, a set piece goal and a very fortunate penalty (albeit as a result of alack of experience from CCV maybe). Then just when we were getting well on top, we go down to 10 men. Honestly, there's more positives to take out of this game than there were last week. A ten man, mish mash bunch of young and squadies still managed to have 75% of the ball and come from behind twice to win a game that should have been dead.

The only difference between our performance here and Villa was that Wycombe actually showed some ambition, Villa didn't. We were fucking abject for 60 minutes in that game, but so were Villa.

I think we should have started with Janssen, not Son. That not being the case I think players like Sissoko, Dier and maybe even Son should have gone off before those that did. All three of those were piss fucking poor. And don't go giving me the "Son scored" bollocks, defenders scored both of those, which were off target as were all the other good chances he pissed away. His carelessness on the ball nearly cost us another goal as well.

When you put some of the praise for some of those above mentioned in context of some of the criticism of Onomah it is embarrassing. He's a 19yo. He's playing his first game for what two or three months, his second or third start of the season, in a completely makeshift side, out of position (as ever) and he didn't play any worse than much more experienced and vastly more expensive pro's like Dier, Sissoko, Son, Nkoudou or even Alli or Dembele when they came on. It's fine to critique his performance honestly, call it what it was, a bit fucking meh, but the shit he gets or the anger vented towards a 19yo kid still getting his first kicks is ludicrous. Surely players like Kane, Alli, Dier, Winks etc have taught us all a lesson. What do you reckon Alli's first 10 games were like ? I mean he can bumble around like turtle in a fucking windsock still, for the first 3 months of this season he was fucking attrocious, and that's after about 150 senior games.

I'd be more worried that we paid 30m for a player who has the technique of a fucking fridge FFS. And 22m for Son, who still manages to trip his way round games, fucking up simple things constantly, than I would about a 19yo who's cost us a packet of peanuts not looking like a world beater in his first 5 hours of proper football.

Individual

Vorm - Hard to assess really. Didn't have loads to do except pick the ball out the net. Don't think any were his fault ?

Tripper - OK

CCV - Bit immature to go to ground maybe, but I still think he didn't take the man either, the man lost control of the ball and put his leg into him. I have never been as convinced as some about CCV, but it's early days and I don't think he's generally handled things badly when played. Little stat for you, nobody passed more ball today than CCV, 74 passes, and only Dembele superseded his 91% success rate with his humble 22 passes. Make of it what you will.

Wimmer - meh

Davies - meh

Dier - Poor game. He made Wycombe look like ManC last week at times. Entirely to blame for goal 3.

Winks - Decent game. Saw most outfield ball (i.e. ahead of the defence). As ever, industrious, neat and tidy.

Sissoko - The odd bulldozerly flourish but, as ever, mainly resulting in ultimate disappointment. Poor.

Onomah - Pretty meh, but not the catastrophic even some seem to portray.

Nkoudou - Don't really know why he was yanked at half time and why he was yanked ahead of Sissoko. Didn't do anything orgasmic but was lively and looked more likely to control the ball than Sissoko.

Bumble Min Son - Eratic, careless and wasteful. Eventually the Wycombe defenders felt so sorry for him they decided to kick it in the goal for him.

Janssen - Did OK. Worked hard, won and buried the pen, played a nice little ball for Son for the winner.

Dembele - Meh.

Alli - Was pretty meh. Stuck his goal away coolly, but fuck knows what the keeper was doing, just seemed to step aside and offer up his goal.
While son wasn't brilliant he still was our best out there today. In the first half he was literally the only one of our lads making anything happen, and he had to do it basically all by himself. He had to create the chance and try to finish because nobody was anticipating shit. People need to realize that all the chances son creates for himself r chances most of our other players just can't and that's what makes him so good.

I remember when Poch came here from Southampton, there was an anonymous quote from someone in the Saints' dressing that if you were one of favourites he treated you like a son, but if you were outside that circle he barely had any time for you.

With some of the 2nd string teams he sends out, it really does look like everyone is lacking confidence and haven't been coached at all. And I do wonder whether if he's still prone to ignoring the squaddies when an arm round the shoulder could done wonders for some of them.

At one stage during the game when i thought we were going to be beaten by a league 2 team i thought to myself when the ratings thread goes up on SC i'm going to click on 'none deserved' but seeing that we won i'm a happy man so i voted for Winks,he busted a gut for us today.

Special mention #2 - TV producer/director. One of my pet hates I mention often, it was a new low today. Seriously who the fuck is in charge of showing the game and why do they think we need to see constant lingering close ups of managers, chairmen, replays etc. when the game is in play. Show the fucking match. The whole buildup to the Alli goal was missed for instance through such nonsense. Really annoys me. Out of all the incompetence on show today, this was far and away the winner.
Spot fucking on! Been banging on about this for sometime! So irritating. There should be somebody or watch dog group we should be able to report this to.

Vorm - Looked a bit shaky and I have no idea what he's doing for the first goal.

Trippier - Was good before he came off, delivered some great crosses. Hopefully the injury isn't too bad.

CCV - Tough game for him. All part of the learning experience though.

Wimmer - Wasn't really at fault for any of the goals and made one great crunching tackle. Others are saying he was bad though so maybe I missed some stuff.

Davies - Meh

Dier - For the supposed leader in the team, he wasn't good at all. Didn't perform well at DM, and was responsible for their third goal (will have to watch it again)?

Winks - Love him, definitely comes out of this game with credit. Always drove us forward and was up for the battle.

Sissoko - Shite.

Onomah - Probably will be wrongly scapegoated, but yeah, he wasn't good :(

Nkoudou - Would've taken off Sissoko instead of him, but his first half was quite poor. Helps to make you understand why he isn't making the bench for PL games.

Son - I don't know what to make of his performance. He missed so many chances but at least he was heavily involved and trying to do something. And, of course, he came up with the vital moment in the last second (might go down as an own goal though).

Subs:

Janssen - Played well - won and scored a pen, and got a great assist for the 4th goal.

Alli - Good finish for his goal but he didn't really add much. Was perhaps getting too arrogant with his constant flicks.

Dembele - Meh - A couple of good runs but didn't change much.

Dembele and Alli both made a huge difference, and Wimmer lost his man for the first goal. Davies was at fault for their third, just slept walked into letting that old stunt have a free header. CCV can go learn somewhere else on loan, as can Josh. It's too risky to throw these boys in now.

Son my MOM - always tries to make things happen.

Winks was good as well.

I gotta say I'm worried about the quality of our non Belgian CBs. Wimmer seems mentally flakey. CCV has composure by my fears about his height were shown to be well founded today. He was beaten in the air all day long and beaten for pace. I think he'll end up being a defensive midfielder.

Onomah... I'm not getting it all. A year from now I think he's more likely to be pushing cannabis on Tottenham High Road rather than pushing for a place in Tottenham's first team. He needs a League One loan to get game time and to see if he sinks or swims.

My particular style of humour. Not surprised you didn't recognise it as you do seem a rather humourless individual perpetually spoiling for a fight with any and everyone.

We have a young black player you think is only good enough to sell drugs on the street. You don't see any problem with that comment?

It was a play on words. Nothing to do with race. Kids in Tottenham, if they don't make it, often end of on the wrong side of the law, whatever race they are. It was slightly flippant maybe, but consistent with my general humour with cuts across all races and nationalities.

Vorm - 6 really made a mess of their first goal

Trippier - 7 I dont recall any mistakes

CCV - 6.5 yeah he gave up the pen but he was snookered. Live and learn.

Wimmer - 7 Im not sure why he was withdrawn except for tactical reasons. I like that Poch stuck with Vickers.

Davies - 6 didnt hear his name called much

Sissoko - 6 I still dont know what he does

Winks - 7.5 quite the worker bee

Onomah - 5 meh

GKN - 5 also meh

Dier - 6 was pretty piss poor by his standards - badly abused for their third

Son 7.5 - fucking wasteful as hell but two goals speaks for itself

We won, and that's about everything good that can be said about that game. Fair play to Wycombe though, they were excellent and took their chances when they arrived. For us I thought Son (despite his wastefulness, he should have had 4 or 5 in all honesty) and Winks were the best of a fairly poor bunch.

I thought it at the time, and watching the highlights confirmed my belief that Kevin Wimmer was utterly atrocious and comfortably our worst player. He gave the ball away that led to the point blank chance from which they should have scored in the first minute, completely lost his man in an awful error who scored from the corner and fucked up just prior to CCV giving away the penalty (that, after seeing it again, I still maintain was harsh as he got the ball with his heel).

He definitely doesn't deserve to start against Sunderland and a genuine fucking LOL at the people that still believe that he is a better option than Vertonghen.

When you were typing that comment out you just had to know it was close to the mark. Common sense should tell you that. I'm not surprised people are pulling you up about it. It was ill judged and thoughtless at best.
