Job done but its a pity we had to rely on 4 members of the 1st team to come on in the second half to get the win, instead of resting them. I suppose the 45 minutes run about wont do them any harm for Liverpool on Thursday.

Ndombele my MOTM

Winks my MOM
for some quick progressive forward passing
and a well taken goal.
Not a typical Winks performance
but he can do it when instructed/ allowed
to do so.
Ndombele the icing
Winks the cake.

True. Getting some of the rust off from the break before Liverpool will be helpful. Also, hope Jose plans on to have the team focus on finishing this week. Some really concerning misses but glad we're creating opportunities.

I was happy overall. On another night, 4 of our players could have had hat-tricks. Lucas, Bale and Son all missing the target, and Lamela hitting the target every time but with pea-rollers; lose/lose.

Only player I thought had a reasonably poor game is Vinicius.

For pure talent in the last 20 years, Ndombele is up there with Berbatov, Dembele, and Bale Mk I.
Sublime player, and I still have nightmares that we might have considered selling him.

Thought Bale showed some real intent with the ball and was making things happen which was great to see. Winks was very good, apart from his passing and shooting in the last third .... until the goal - a really composed finish. I also thought he started the game with real intent, spinning away from an opponent and driving into their half. It is probably what he is best at and he needs to play with that urgency as he is very good at getting through lines in the middle third. Ndombele is really a different class and there is no ceiling to the player he can be. With his quality he should be getting into double figures for goals if he plays as the CAM, and I think he has 5 for the season now.

Thought Davinson was MOTM. Dealed really well with their physicality when most our defence looked vulnerable in any physical battles.

I can get it. He had a good game. In comparison, Toby was really meh tonight against those physical striker with strength.

Though I think Bale, winks, tanguy or even PEH had a better game

Does anyone know where you can get game stats quickly? ESPN+ was on and out of the corner of my eye, i thought it said that Winksy's passing stats included 29 forward passes out of 82 with a 77% success rate. Have not found a site to corroborate that. And while my eye thought his game today was suspect, there are quite a few people who voted for him for MOTM. It's a headscratcher.

Rating by expectation rather than just performance..

Below Expectations:
Tanganga - I hate to say it but he was not good today. Did get into good positions but looked awkward on the wing and seemed uncomfortable.
Lucas - he did put in a great ball but really disappointed outside of that one moment. He turns the ball over more than anyone in our side, despite looking far less threatening while doing it than our other attackers.
Toby - got better in the second half but he was really struggling with their physicality. First goal is on him moreso than Sanchez, was easily turned and couldn't get a foot in.
Vinicius - offside a lot today and seemed out of sync.

Average:
Hart - No chance on the goal, he still looks shaky and is allergic to clean sheets.
Sanchez - he wasn't a disaster, he's weird in that 7/10 times defending he looks impressive, but has those 2 or 3 mistakes and lapses in him that never seem to go away.
Davies - was pretty calm and steady. Could have had a nice assist but overcooked the ball to Kane a little bit.
Winks - wasn't great, but he did grow in to the match and looked good next to Hojbjerg which is a stark improvement from what we're used to. Nice goal as well.
Lamela - looks back to his old self. Still holds on the ball a bit too long but he was good, busy. Hope he plays a bit vs. Liverpool.
Son/Kane/PEH - all good and raised our level. Kane and Son both missed chances that they'd usually score.

Above Expectations:
Sissoko - only because he was playing RB, thought he was actually really good going forward and could have had a goal/assist
N'Dombele - what more can you say about him? Neymar would have been proud of his performance today.
Bale - a lot more energy, a lot more intent, and of course a goal. This is the Bale I was hoping for when we signed him, and he had a level of commitment that we'd been waiting for. Would love him to kick on and play vs. Brighton at the weekend.

Winks MOTM for me.
Thought Ndombele and Bale ran him close.
Rest of the team all played well with the exception of Vinicius and I also felt Toby struggled a bit.

Just a shame we still lack that fire power in the second string as we should be putting these games to bed earlier and giving Jose a selection headache. Fingers crossed Bale can push on and fix this.

Who scored had him % just above 80.

Winks was MOM for me looked sharp and always wanted to press forward, had we put away our chances 1st half would have been more comfortable than it ended up being
