Don't really see the problem...

It's natural, although annoying, that Madrid see themselves as the pinnacle of world football. It becomes a bit vulgar when their players openly talk like this but it's been going on for years. We have to accept our status in European football. We're still working to establish ourselves at the top level while Madrid have been there for the past half a century.

Why bother to post the story here ?

Separately, Bale will go and we will make a good profit on him and keep moving forward.

A player as good as Bale should be competing to win the Champions League and not just qualify for it. For that reason he willl eventually leave us. It will hurt when he does so lets all enjoy him while we can.

Agree completely. If we don't qualify this year what right would we have to keep him if one of the worlds biggest teams come in for him? Would love to see him win things with us before he goes though.

This will be unpopular.

I'm getting ready for a barrage of abuse.

I think Bale is ever so slightly overrated. There. I said it! He's World Class...from time to time. A true World Class footballer, to me, is someone who performs to their very best game in, game out. I honestly don't think Bale is there yet. He's only 23, and is undoubtedly improving every year, but I still think he might be a season or two off being truly World Class. Unfortunately, I don't think he will be with us when he reaches that status.

May have something to do with the fact that Croats played Wales the other day and Bale was on song during that game

I broadly agree, but I do think that under someone like Mourinho/Fergie then he'd flourish, and we'd see those sparks of world class talent on a more regular basis. I think he needs that type of manager, someone who will demand the very best from him that bit more than the rest.

Technically he's almost a faultless footballer, and impressive physically too - but it's mentality and character which turn those skills into world class footballers, and good coaching too.

We won't keep hold of him because the very top clubs will see that raw ability, the ability to do what he did to the European Champions (twice), the ability to go to Old Trafford and score that goal he did recently, and they'll think that if they can get that out of him regularly then he will be one of the worlds best. Enjoy him while you can, basically.

I watched a bit of the Croatia/Wales game and it reminded me just what a fucking pleasure it was to have a player like Modric in a Spurs shirt for 4 years.

I don't bare the guy an ounce of bitterness. I would tune in to watch a Real madrid game just to watch him play and enjoy it. Can you imagine what playing for Real Madrid would mean to any football mad kid growing up in most parts of the world. No wonder he sulked a bit when we - understandably from our perspective - made that move tricky.

I think Hughy make's a very valid point as does SS18. Bale is capable of world class moments, but is not a consistently world class player. Some days he's fucking awful. His decision making process is nowhere near consistent enough. At the right team, surrounded by world class players and coached by a world class manager, he could certainly improve that, but if I'm honest, I don't think he will ever be the same value to a team, as influential or important, as a player like Ronaldo at RM.

Some journo asked him a quick question and he answered it honestly. It's not as if he organised a press conference to deliver his thoughts on Bale.

Non story.

Cue a £15m bid from Liverpool.......

We all know he's good enough, but that's where it ends. He's contracted to Spurs. But.....if a bid of say £80 Million came in, what would DL do ??

I could ask what you think he should do, but he'd probably fly Gareth directly to the door of the Chairman offering it, in his private jet. I wouldn't expect anything less.
