Well, as we're turning back time, let's sign Arteta before Everton get there.

To be honest none of them would be anymore then squad players, and we have to many of them now.

I'm going to keep my mouth shut. I would love it. Agree though, good squad player and can play multiple positions.

having watched a lot of Sheffield United last season I always thought he was perfect for a team like Everton. He almost single handedly kept them up.

But he is a first team player, on here we're talking as if players with goal averages of 1 in 5 or 6 when they're getting regular games are good enough to be a 4th striker and will do a job.

We've seen how 'goal machines' Mido, Defoe and bent have all suffered as being 3rd/4th strikers, do we honestly believe the likes of Kitson and Jones would be any better than Mido as a 4th choice player who rarely gets a game?

I'm not writing off people's views here, but it's something to ponder, we've turned out and out goalscorers into inconsistent, berated players with our system, I don't think it should continue.

You have prob got a good point there mate. A 4th striker is never goning to score 30goals a year (otherwise they would nt be your 4th choice) as they wont get as many games as the main 2 or 3.
1 other point though. Mido and 'goal machine' should nt be used in the same sentence

Well looking at his record before us, he only really failed to make an impact at Roma.

Not forgetting he was 22 when he joined us, so for a young player his record, especially for Ajax is not something to be sniffed at

we're about players from relegated teams - jagielka was one such - I (and others) suggested him for us last season and we were met with the same misguided snobbery that so many of this other boards 'sages' reserve for 'unfashionable' English players only to be proven mistaken time and again

I think Nicky Shorey is class and would probably not cost too much as only has one year left to run on his contract after this summer I believe?

Bale seems to be a bit injury-prone at the moment and I think we need a proper left-footer (Gilberto has been shown to be a bit dodgy in defense so far so not sure would want to take the risk going into next season - would prefer to keep him as left wing cover). Shorey looked class for England too and think he could push Bale for the left back spot in terms of defending ability.

Shorey aside, the other players who could be possabilities...

Mauro Zarate would be way too expensive although a good player - too much money for someone who isn't completely proven.

I think Dave Kitson would be a good shout to have in the squad as back-up to Keano and Berbs (stay stay...) - would also have a look at Shane Long too as he looks quite promising.

Brum's young goalkeeper Colin Doyle might be worth purchasing to look at developing.

Luis Antonio Valencia at Wigan is supposed to be a good winger - I'm sure they have a good midfielder on loan that Wenger recommended but can't seem to find who it is...

Agreed! I'm sure I actually started a thread about him in general football too and was surprised about how negative the comments were about him.

If we signed Kenny Miller I would weep for days on end. He is so mediocre it hurts. He'd be an average signing for a mid-table Championship team.

I'd like Kitson as a fourth striker though, he's not going to take us into the Champions League but he's a decent player who'd work his heart out for the team and score a few goals. Having said that I'd rather see one of our reserves promoted, but from the looks of things Pekhart isn't good enough and Ramos doesn't appear to rate Taarabt.

Whoever said that they wouldn't mind Keane, Bent and Kitson as our three main strikers has got to be kidding though. Bent and Kitson are only proven at mid-table teams so far, and Keane can't do it all on his own.

Btw, does anyone know how Dag Alexander Olsen is doing?

Hes still young give it time, in 2-3 years we will be able to tell

hilarious that people (not just here) are loving zarate cos he's scored a couple of goals and looked useful in the tiny amount of time that he's played!

fuck it, let's sign michael ricketts back into the prem - he looked awesome and scored shitloads for half a season at bolton. ridiculous to judge wither way so soon

i don't think sunderland are going down, so won't bother with their players (jones prob off to chelski anyway). kitson would be fine as a 4th choice if he'd accept it. palacios looks decent but difficult to judge in such a short time... valencia wouldn't be any improvement on lennon and too expensive as a backup

mcfadden might be worth a shout as a squad player (would be expensive again though) - he can play up front or wide left. matt taylor at bolton would be good competition for bale/gilberto - can play LB and LM

basically, i agree there's no-one who would improve our first-choice team but potentially a couple of useful players to improve the squad strength. not getting me very excited though!

Had forgotten Matt Taylor. Yes, he would be an improvement on any of our existing leftback options (or at least any Ramos' is prepared to play), but I think we can do better.

I thought that Gary Cahill hasn't looked to bad for Bolton. I also thought that he looked pretty good for Villa too. Was he the guy who scored a ridiculous over head goal for Villa last season. Also Kevin Nolan is a player I have always liked and think could probably do with a move as he has maybe gone a bit stale where he is
