True SS57, Kezman had over a goal per game ratio in the Dutch League and look what happened to him a Chelsea.

:hump:

Matthew Amoah who couldn't buy a game in Germany is also scoring for fun in Holland.

We'd all grab a couple if we played over there.

Well considering that Johnny Heitinga was considered a top defender in the league and has looked a train wreck at Atletico, Engelaar was considered a great central midfielder at Twente and is worthless at Schalke and a certain keeper was considered world class by Eredivisie standards........does this suprise anyone?

Shame because Engelaar was good in the Euros too.

I guess you never can be sure. For every van Nistelrooy or van Persie there's 20 Kezmans & Alves'.

Which just goes to show that Pleaty (I think) was right when he said you shouldn't judge players by international performances. We got away with it with Ossie, but he's one of the exceptions that prove the rule.

Then again, Engelaar was playing in a complimentary system: 4-2-3-1 where de Jong did all the hard grafting to get the ball and he played midfield link with the 4 attackers. At Schalke, Rotten [sic] has him with two other DM's in a stoic 4-3-3 where there are only two players to make space for his solid passing: KK and Farfan (or on the odd occassion when Rutten pulls his head out of his ass and plays Rakatic there are 3). So in a system where he is expected to do more box to box work, he looks crap.

 Pretty solid for them this season, unlucky injury and played badly when they all did as a team. Would be like saying that Corluka has been a train wreck for us...

Bit Harsh on Alves, I think he's quite quality (forgetting the miss on sunday....terrible!)

He's a very good goalscorer all in all. I think he'll prove his worth in the prem yet.

So does anyone in their right mind think this guy would start or even make the bench when we had Berby/Keane/Defoe/Bent? It was the best thing for him to leave Spurs as he was never going to get a game with the talent we had around him and more than likely he wouldn't get a game over Frasier-Campbell this year so he still wouldn't get much time on the pitch with us even this year.

Glad we can see talent in the potential phase and can develop some of the talent we have at the lower levels. Rose, Bostock, Pekhart and so on would be great to get some use out of them at the first team level.

He did well when we put him out on loan, was it Derby? but he got injured good to see him doing well in Holland though.

By the way I challenge this idea that players that were "shit" here only do well in Holland because its a shit league. too many smart alecs on here I think.

I'd urge people to remember we got knocked out of the UEFA cup last year by a 'shit Eredivisie' team.

I don't think leagues can be measured on a linear scale at all, every league has its different styles, hence why some players look like different players in different leagues.

I genuinely believe there are some good premiership strikers who would struggle in the Championship for goals because it is a completely different game.

Alves has 9 in 23 for Boro, and it includes his poor form as of late. That's not bad at all for a team with little creativity.

Would remind you of a certain Charlton Striker who has been looking pretty good in a better side.
