I don't know whether this has been done yet, however I think that after the bashing this bloke has received (yes, I was one of the guilty ones), that praise be given to him.

I for one thought that after the pasting from fans, the media etc and the form that he was showing, Gomes was done for at Spurs.

Especially playing in goal, where every single little thing you do is scrutinised to the minutest detail, I think that it shows tremendous character and self belief to come back from the evident low that Gomes was at to where we see him at the moment.

I hope we now continue to see the real Gomes and just wanted to hi five him for showing all us doubters what he can really do....

.....

RESPECT for the octopus!

I have given him much praise. However I still feel my initial concerns were justified by a collection of consistently woeful clown-like performances.

I'm happy he appears to have turned it around. The same can be said for Dawson too.

I agree, I changed the title as i suppose some of the slating he got was justified, but this really is about respect for managing to turn a corner!!

He has been excellent for the last month or so and deserves a bit of praise for his performances and attitude.

The problem for Gomes now is that one little mistake and the Press and sadly our fans will ridicule him again.

I'll never understand people writing off and not supporting our players so early into their Spurs career.

I remember many on here calling Steed "Malwank" and now he is rightly well respected.

IMO the contribution of Tony Parkes to Gomes' current form should not be underestimated. His increase in confidence and form coincided nicely with TP's arrival.

I loved it when our fans sang: "we love you Gomes, we do" during the Wigan game and he turned around and clapped.

Legend in the making imo

Always thought he was quality from the day I saw him at spurs.
Although before that I was a little worried.

Has admittedly made a few mistakes, but certainly not more than any other player. COnfidence is high, he has been assured and he has started keeping clean sheets.

Has made some of the best saves I've ever seen in his short stay already. Simply unreal on his day.

I think hes got potential to be an excellent spurs keeper for many years to come. He seems like a really great bloke, a positive influence in the dressing room, and at his best he'll win us games and save us countless points.

My only fear is that, despite his excellent run of about 10 games, it only takes a couple of high profile errors in coming weeks to put him right back in the public eye. Before you know it the incredible saves against liverpool and man u are forgotten and once again he's 'that clown' or 'an absolute liability'.

I think the next few months could define his time as a spurs player.

I was chatting with Stophe about the guy the other day. He's been brilliant; to come back from a bad rib injury and even worse stick from the press, as well as some of his own fans. It's hard being a goalkeeper. I'm one myself, and you only get remembered for the mistakes you make, not the saves you make. I've scored a couple of freakish, flukey own goals for my team, through no fault of my own, and I'm remembered more for them than all the points we've gained through my performances. You can't win. So credit to the lad.

As a goalkeeper I mostly remembered the goals I scored ;-)

Not the ones I let in!!!

Yeah, he has shown real strength of character and deserves all the praise. The only problem will be that it will only take on mistake for the media to jump on him again. That will be something he and we will have to get used to, he will be judged harder than someone like Cech, who has made several really bad errors this season, yet still recieves an easy ride from the press.

I think Gomes has become a marked man in the media. If he can ride the storm they'll eventually change their tact but until then all it takes is one mistake and, like you said, they'll be all over him.

We all make mistakes, but i think Gomes has shown great bouncebackability..

He is always producing crucial saves, with his great reactions and athleticism.

I hope he is our No.1 for a very long time!! :)

Gomes is as good as Cech and Reina. Simple as.

All the media bollox was almost totally un-called for. He fumbled a couple of goals but in the main he has been very hard to beat. The stats prove just how special he is and ALL Spurs fans must face the facts: we are luck to have him.

Top thread. When he made the mistake at Fulham away, I really felt his Spurs career might be short lived. Not because he wasn't good enough, but the fact the media would hound him out of England. But a combination of Parks, Redknapp, and most of all Gomes himself, has proved everyone wrong. And I for one am glad that he's our number one keeper.

Don't know exactly what happened but he has been absolutely amazing recently! Top keeper and good thread, definately deserves one of the biggest cheers at WHL when the names are read out.

But yes, one mistake and they will swarm all over him!
