I've no idea where they got this from and there's not any substance to it in the article, but thought I'd post it anyway, given the dearth of news around

http://tottenhamhotspur.blogspot.com.es/2014/07/attention-turned-to-ricardo-rodriguez.html

Tottenham are believed to have turned their attentions to Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodríguez after failing to reach agreement with Swansea.

Another club offered £2 million more than we had already agreed with Swansea for Ben Davies so they demanded more money. We have therefore moved our attentions elsewhere to fill a problem position.

There are plenty of up and coming left-backs in world football so we don't need to be fixated by one or pay inflated fees, as you will see from the comparison in a minute.

Discussions are talking place regarding Ryan Bertrand but it's doubtful Daniel Levy would want to pay £8 million for a player Liverpool were only prepared to offer £6 million for.

Ricardo Rodríguez is a name that has been mentioned by a few astute Spurs supporters before. Currently at VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, the 21 year-old interests Manchester United, who are reported to have put a bid in, and Chelsea are also known to be watching him.

The German club want £15 million for the Swiss international who is under contract until 2016 and who of course has also been watched by Liverpool.

He won 90 tackles last season which topped the Bundesliga and placed him 8th in the top 5 leagues in Europe. So how does he fair against Luke Shaw and Ben Davies?

He won more tackles than Luke Shaw or Ben Davies (90 v 61 v 59), won more tackles per game (2.65 v 1.84 v 1.73), made more blocks (12 v 4 v 11) and more blocks per game (0.35 v 0.12 v 0.32).

He won more aerial duels (102 v 59 v 53), made more interceptions (64 v 37 v 63).

Now if you are wondering, they all played a similar number of league games, 34, 35, 34 so comparisons are not skewed by one player only playing a few.

Passing is where Ben Davies edges ahead, pass completion (80% v 79% v 84%), forward passes (805 v 799 v 1,033), however Rodríguez successfully beats his man a higher percentage of the time (76.58% v 57.14% v 51.72%) and creates more chances (78 v 33 v 31) - See more at: http://tottenhamhotspur.blogspot.co...o-ricardo-rodriguez.html#sthash.7CRuqBq3.dpuf

If he does move to a second tier club it'll be for 15-17 i'd think. The 30m quote people are throwing round is way OTT IMO

The thing is. He is one of the most, if not the most talented young left back in world football right now. I really don't see him being sold for less than Luke Shaw went to Man U for. I keep repeating myself but Wolfsburg are currently a rich club, they don't need to sell so why would they let one of their prize assets go for so cheap?

Shaw was however about £15m over priced because of the british hype. No full back at the moment should be going for £20m+. Looking at the stats i think it does put the Davies transfer into perspective as all 3 are fairly similar and i would argue that Davies did better than Shaw last season for a club in a worse position. Does make me beg the question - why do people on here seem so meh about Davies when they would have gone mental over Shaw? They look like (statistically) very similar options.

This is the point though. Wolfsburg can demand what they want because they don't need the money.

Would absolutely love Rodriguez. 15 million though, there is not a chance in hell we'd get him for that. We'd be extremely lucky to get him for 20 million.

Full backs are so important in the modern game now so he'd definitely be worth the money.

Not going to get hopes up though.

If he's available for £15m we should be all over it.

Incredible value for a great left back who'll get better with experience, be worth more and who'll be good for 10 years (unless we sell).

Same with Kono at £12m and Bony at £19m.

Quality players in the right positions is what we need.

We have a lot of players we can get rid of to offset purchases.

If he was available for £15million he wouldn't be coming here.

Stop this fallacy!

Livermore - £8 million
Defoe - £6 million
Sigurdsson - £9 million

That's £23 million, chuck in a couple more and you can get Rodriguez for £27 million.

This is precisely it, we could sell 2 players to fund every addition.

We've 29 senior players (including Falque and Khumalo).

We're £15m in the black already from Defoe and Livermore.

Thanks to our academy, we could theoretically spend £50-60m on 3-4 players, and more or less break even.

All about shifting players.

Rubbish mate. You haven't include signing on fees, agents fees, and money we will have to pay to the leaving players to get them to leave. It just isn't as simple as you make out.

I'd be happy to pay 30m pounds on him.

Why?
Clearly overpriced yes,but not in todays market. Good left backs are rare and that is the position we have to give the most attention this summer. I am fine with our options upfront. But we really need long term solutions at the back.

His corners and freekicks alone are worth it.

Best available left back out there. Plus side? Everyone who needs a left back has bought one, or is close to.

Bad thing is Wolfsburg don't need to sell. Only big clubs who actively need a LB are Atletico, once Luis leaves, Liverpool and us. There are 3 good left backs about, who're attainable. Davies, RR and Moreno. I think the latter will move to Atletico.
