Keane has informed Juande Ramos of his desire to play for Liverpool and if the funds are available, then the Spurs forward could very well be the ‘nice surprise for Liverpool fans’ I recently spoke of: certainly a far more realistic option than David Villa who, at the moment, is diverting attention away from the club's genuine targets.

I definitely can't see Liverpool paying 20mil for a 28 year old.

Assuming Garcia is replacing Keane Spurs would only sell Robbie if they were getting a large wad of cash. If it's all true they must be paying that sort of fee.

If it has to go through hopefully Alonso is part of the equation.

I would rather that everything fell through.

We all need to calm down and get a grip.
Keane is not going anywhere.
Gus came out the other day and said we would be crazy to let one of our best players leave.
Plus Keane has not come out and said he wants to go or handed in a transfer request.
Just because we maybe signing Garcia, that doesn't mean he will be replacing Keane.
If anything,Bent will be allowed to leave with Sunderland looking favourites to sign him.
Ramos Obviously doesn't rate Bent,so it makes perfect sense to sell Bent and buy a player who Ramos is familiar with (Garcia.)

I'm hoping this whole thing falls through, I don't want Garcia, we need better quality than that and if that is then coupled with Keane leaving then i'll be spending another summer :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Although I think that Garcia is a step down from Bent i think that this is probably true

He is pretty noncommital though, just says "we'll see". Trust the 4, if Keane is going, they are going to get an amount with which to purchase a replacement they see as better, plus helping in another area

This is really bad news as far as I'm concerned we could end up starting nect season with a completely new mid and attack!

Here we go again.
Another day of every panicking over tabloid garbage.
O.K. so Benitez has said he contacted us about Keane.
But he did'nt say what the outcome was.
Thats because we probably told him that Keane was not on the market to be sold and if they were interested in him and the bidding would have to start at £20m.
There is no way they would pay that much for him, when they are being tight on the Barry Fee which is £17m.
Barry is Liverpool's no.1 target and once they have bought him they will not splash another £20m on 1 player, when Benitez could raid Spain for 2-3 players for that price.

He is such a tosser. We should just say no and put an end to it, Keano is on a long contract and will soon get over it.

The exact quote on there is:

"Keane is one of the other names and okay we are still working with other names. We were in contact and we will see now."

Which either means they have approached the club or the player himself, if it's the latter we should do them for tapping-up.

The fact that they're talking about our players on their offical website should be sufficient for tapping up, but look what happened to Real over the charges by Man U on Ronaldo's tapping up. Fark all.

It's set a precident, I'm sure.

Also no matter how much they go on about it they simply can't afford him. We would be asking easily £20m+ for Keane, given the lenght of his contract and value to us. There's just no way Liverpool will shell out that much for him.

In terms of players they can offer us, i can only think of Alonso and it is very uncommon to offer a player exchange type deal these days.

according to Setanta RB has confirmed Liverpool have contacted Spurs over Keane

http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/07/10/Prem-Benitez-confirms-Keane-interest/

It would have to have been in the past 24 hours, then. (Unless he's admitting to an illegal approach.)

And what he's actually quoted as saying is:

"Keane is one of the other names and okay we are still working with other names. We were in contact and we will see now."

Which is neatly ambiguous. Is he saying they were in contact with Keane, or with one of the 'other names'?
