Whenever dad spoke about him during his time at Spurs, he always without fail would say he needed a strike partner / someone to feed off of as was not suited to being up top on his own.

Lo and behold what formation do Villarreal play??

4-4-2 lol.

Dad was actually right!

During a few of my crazy moments last year I also suggested a 3-5-2 formation with Kane / Bobby up top in team line-up threads.

Can't do this at the moment as we don't actually have a proper forward to stick alongside Kane lol lol lol.

...

Confidence mate and possibly over thinking, you could see it in his body language.
He was playing too much in his head IMO. After it didn't come he never gave up, I personally loved his play outside the box but when it came to him in the box he overthought things or snatched at chances.

Hope he tears it up in Spain this season, and keeps some good memories from his time here.

Just saw his goals...it's absoluelty winding my up that we didn't get the best out of this guy, really pisses me off.

Should have got him when we had Modric, Bale and VdV, would have been ridiculous but oh well.

So how for those that disagree with my last post, how did Kane score 30 goals? Soldado couldn't cut in the league. It happens.

Cozzo, i'm with you. He had darren bent moments, hitting posts or fluffing.

We knew he was a decent player. Just couldn't deal with th prem.

Because a lot of Kane's goals he created himself, Kane and Soldado are different players. Soldado is a goal poacher who relies on service, Kane can conjure something out of nothing.

Anyway you're right in a sense, he did miss a lot of chances when they were put on a plate to him but as I eluded to before he was overthinking and his confidence was shot, it doesn't excuse some if his misses but it goes a long way to explain his sudden dip in form these last 2 years as opposed to his lat season at Valencia and now with Villareal where it's looking like he's getting back on track.

Nothing to do with the league, he suffered due to our slow and mundane style of play in particular in his first season with us.

I like the guy and all, and it's clear that either the football we was playing or the fast pace of the league didn't really suit him. But damn he missed soooo many chances, and not just half chances either. He had plenty of opportunities but he just couldn't finish.

Happens to a lot of players. This confidence thing. Gomes was a worldly goalie but prone to some almighty head scratchers.

Classy goal and two excellent assists

Really great to see him back to his best in Spain

Great guy and I never had any doubts he'd be back doing what he does best in his comfort zone. Shame he couldn't do it for us but very pleased to see him doing well and enjoying football again

Keep it up

Makes me wonder how many players under perform in our 4231 formation and manager style... Lamela is gonna be the next Messi when he goes Inter.

Good to see he is doing well already in Spain and i hope it continues. i just hope people don't start saying why did we sell him and it was all our fault that he didn't perform here. His hold up play wasn't good and he didn't have the work rate that Kane does as well as missing some easy chances on a fairly regular basis.

Still he has had a rough few years so I hope he bangs them in and get a smile back on his face once more.

If he performs better, it will be to do with the difference in playing styles in Serie A than anything to do with a formation.

However some players coming from other league makes immediate impact.... So it's a strange one for us. They came and gets benched... I always wonder where is the root cause.

He was always a class player. You only had to look at his touch and control. Unfortunately that first half season broke him mentally and he never had that run of goals to recover. I always thought if at any point he had a 2-3 game run like he is having now he would have been OK.

At least I've got a reason to follow la liga now.

I mean, it couldn't have possibly been our turgid, predictable, snail-paced attacking play that effected his form whilst he was with us.

Really happy for him and his family. I bet he's buzzing again.

I wish he would still tweet in English though. :(

Nice to see loads of our fans congratulating him on Twitter. He is going to knock us out of the uefa cup isn't he?
