Presented with golden opportuninities? Really? So he's been inserted into the team after finally scoring in the league in open play?
Have you not been watching the dozens of one on one chances he's fluffed?

He finally scored from open play but was not played against Chelsea in the following game (a game he was very unsuited to) but he played the very next home game against Palace (only a week later since Chelsea was a Wed)

Against Crystal Palace at home he missed through very presentable chances to win the game alone

Under AVB he was an isolated figure and starved of the ball - but since Sherwood took over and under Poch when he's played he's had an abundance of more than presentable chances laid on a plate for him and he's simply failed to take them

Each one of those easy chances was a golden opportunity to restore his confidence and show what he is capable of

The problem with Soldado is that he isn't suited to the EPL and never will be.

Anyone scouting/watching him from his time in Spain should have known this.

Negredo on the other hand showed all the qualities needed.

Poor scouting has led to a very poor purchase.

I think we bought in reputation and goals scored rather than any decent analysis.
Exactly what I have been trying to say

I didn't study Soldado's play because I rarely watch Spanish football and even when I do it's usually Barca or Real I watch only

So I saw his goals on youtube and looked at his stats and thought he would be great - I'd expect the people deciding he was worth £26m of our money to have dug much deeper than this and analysed his physical attributes and transferable skills to evaluate how well suited he would be to our league and more importantly to our team and system of play

With the benefit of hindsight it's it is very clear for all to see he's not cut out to be a success for us in this league but the people at our club who assessed him and greenlighted his signing shouldn't have needed hindsight to tell them that with their footballing expertise and time to study him in meticulous detail

I don't expect people to be able to get every decision right, even the best can make mistakes or be unlucky when evaluating a player but watching Bobby struggle in our league seems like such a glearing misjudgement by our guys it's unreal and unacceptable

As requested by @TaoistMonkey , or I'm in for it :D

From what I'm reading, despite his apparently appalling miss, Soldado has supposedly been a different class tonight. For all the stick he gets, and for all the woes he's suffered since his move to our club, I can't help but admire the fact that he hasn't took the easy route & given up. He's not complained, he's kept his head down & just got on with his job. Yes you could mock him by saying he's not doing the job he's paid to do, but bloody hell, I think it's unbelievable that he hasn't just crawled under a rock & gone into hiding, or sulked & belittled the manager. Fair play to the bloke!

Agree. Fantastic character.

Shame he's not a few years younger, least of all for the chance to make him into a wide player as his crossing and creativity is pretty decent.

His touch, link-up play and vision is incredible. I'm not saying that justifies the £26m but his talent is there to see. I seen someone say he's like "Berbatov without the goals" and I thought that was a brilliant comparison. Although Bobby's attitude is much better

I blame whoever contributed to greenlighting his signing

I don't blame the player, I don't think he's lacked effort or will to succeed. I just think in hindsight he's unsuitable and incapable of being a real success for us in this league and I think whoever was involved in his signing should have been better placed to realise this

I can't tell you specifically who to blame because I simply do not know who had what input in the signing - I am sure AVB had an influence, though I believe we were linked to him long before AVB was in the hot seat so there are more people involved certainly

But in my opinion all the people in our scouting and transfer decision making processes should have been able to identify these flaws better than I could as a fan and he never should have been signed because of what we see with the benefit of hindsight (the professionals at our club shouldn't have needed that hindsight)

There was, I believe, a Spanish media report that we were interested in him back in 2011, but a Spanish media report is a Spanish media report. We definitely made an enquiry in summer 2012, with Soldado himself saying that he was happy at Valencia, so one has to assume that it was at Villas-Boas' behest that we signed him in 2013.

We signed this guy 3 years too late, should have signed him when we had Modric, VdV and them mans but as the club were linked to him back then I can see why he was brought in last year, it was just way too late.

I sadly don't feel the service is the issue. the leagues just different. He has had some good chances from great service and fluffed them. I do however agree that had he joined and those players were in the team maybe he wouldn't have had as bad a first season and then been more confident this season.

Italian newspaper Leggo believe AS Roma are making strong moves to sign Roberto Soldado this month. #THFC

Sport Bild claim Bayern Leverkusen have contacted Tottenham regarding the availability of Roberto Soldado. #THFC

I can't speak on the Roma rumors (although it seems as if Roma is perennially interested in our strugglers if the media is to be believed), but apparently Drmic does want his move to Hamburg and that it's become complicated by an injury in a friendly to Kießling. Bayer are now dragging feet and quickly looking for replacements, and stalling on negotiations with HSV.

So it could be entirely fabricated on believability, but all accounts do seem to imply Bayer is actively looking for striker reinforcements.

I doubt anyone would want to pay more than £10m for him and I doubt Levy would accept any less than £15m

Express is the worst. Lol at a swap deal. Lotta reports saying he adamantly wants the move to HSV specifically, which makes much more sense given his level.

Son Heung-Min is currently Bayer Leverkusen's record transfer. He was 7.7 million GBP. While the story sources from Bild, it seems far fetched to say the least.
