I rated him a couple of years ago under AVB.

Would be good cover.

The thing is he's not as good as he was then. Injury and a large dip in form being the main reasons. A couple of years ago I'd be all about it, but these days he's just not very good.

There's so much better talent/value out there to spend 6m Euros on Rolando these days sounds, for lack of a better word, dumb.

Perhaps as a stop gap before we sign the Romanian in January.

I'd take him as a replacement for Dawson as a 4th choice CB. But that it and don't see the point in doing so really.

Maybe your point might happen but he doesn't fit the system and Jan is a long way off

Then a loan would make more sense. He's got a contract with Porto until 2015 and they already loaned him out to Napoli last year. They don't really need him, either. They already have Mangala, Otamendi, Diego Reyes (Just recently bought him to my surprise) and a couple of other guys for depth.

i'll trust AVB's opinion on this player..... if he thinks he's good enough, then he's good enough :)

Why the hell are we targeting Rolando, when Alderweireld wants a move away from Ajax? As a fourth choice defender, we could do worse, but we should aim higher here.

We had ITK stating AVB doesn't rate Alderweireld and I must say I do agree with AVB if that's the case. Alderweireld is a decent player, but nowhere near the talent Verts was. Inferior technique, positioning and he's also not as fluid of an athlete in my opinion. He's similar in strength to Vertonghen so when you think about his prospects as a whole, he's essentially a poor-man's Vertonghen which is why his suitors haven't been the caliber that you would expect if he truly was the next great CB from Ajax.

I could see Alderwielde doing a decent job for a midtable club like sunderland or West Brom but he's definitely not good enough for a side that wants to challenge at the top, if there's a defender I'd want from Dutch lg it would be Martins Indi, what u think of him Snarf?
The only thing that Rolanda has in his favour is he knows the system inside out so would be used to playing the high line.

Bruno Martins Indi is one of my favorite players from the Eredivisie. He plays both LB and CB at a high level. He's fast, strong and he's really smart on the ball. He reminds me a lot of Vertonghen but with more pace. Fantastic player that I'd love to have here.

Yep He's an absolute beast reminds me of a cross between Sol Campbell ( spit ) & jan, we have scouted him a fair bit I hope we make a move for him

I'd absolutely love to have him here. He probably wouldn't cost much in the scheme of things as well. And, he's got a good chance of being a contributor for Netherlands in the future which will only increase his value.

Yes. Loan with a view to buy if he recovers the form he used to have under AVB. I don't think this is where we are looking to replace Caulker, I think it's a temporary replacement for Kaboul while he gets up to fitness. We'll buy a young player like Umtiti or Chiriches with the Caulker money.

Makes too much sense = won't happen.

I hope it does, though.

Has gone to Inter on loan. Hope we didn't drop the ball on this one, this could have been a pretty simple (partial) solution to our current crisis.

I like Bruno, but I like Stefan de Vrij even more. I think he's exactly what we're looking for in another CB.

That being said Martins Indi could also play LB and solve our problems there too. Think the winter transfer rumours are true and Feyenoord were/are willing to sell them both for 25 mil?
