since when they care about money... They have it...they sold Luiz for 50m pounds. Will make me chuckle when Lukaku and mata scores against them....idiots.

Maybe this will drag until our game against Pool.

yup, it's clear they've got money to burn and their obvious cartel agreement with psg means that ffp can be avoided forever. I just think they like being ****'s and it's just pure arrogance and they just think they're above everyone, hence they don't see anyone as rivals.

They waited until united were no longer a rival before they sold Mata

But they are again next season.

In a worse case united could line up:

------------------de Gea-----------------
Rafael-------?--------------?-------Shaw-
------Herrera-----Vidal----Carrick---------
--------Mata-----VPerise---Depay--------

With Rooney off the bench and who knows what they are getting next. All a bit wild at the moment.

How is that a worst case example? 2 of the players mentioned aren't even at united. The 2 question marks just happen to be super important spots and will need time together to get an understanding of each other.

IMO united are still a long way off the top 2 and if Yaya is sold then Chelsea are a long way ahead of the pack.

This makes me curious, could you expand on how this could work?

As for United some should remember that Van Gaal's tactics are proven to be effective, but take typically a year to properly execute. Usually in his first year with a new club the team does decently, and then typically win the league in the second year and beyond. I'm not imagining that a new manager and a ton of new players are going to rocket up the standings. I imagine they'll be tough to face at the end of the year, but I also imagine many bumps in the road to begin the season.

They'll be fighting for top 4, won't be in discussion for 1st and I wouldn't even be surprised if they miss out on top 4 in Van Gaal's first year.

That would be extremely short sighted to think half a season of doing poorly would equate to a team of Man Utd's stature being no longer rivals.

That is not true. His first season with Barcelona and Munich were his best. Only AZ took time, but even then, he improved their position first season. Ajax (his first ever management job) he didn't win the league first season but did win the Uefa cup and finished the same place as his predecessor.

I don't think you can be worried beyond 1 season. Also Mata clearly wasn't in their plans

You mean 1/2 a season and Jose is smarter than that, he will know they will be rivaling them sooner rather than later. Mata wasn't in their plans but neither is Lukaku.

morning mate, sorry, went to bed early last night

as soon as luiz went for stupid money my tin foil hat came out. We all know how both the chavs and psg have destroyed the transfer market but are still attempting to at least publicly be seen to be complying with ffp. By entering into a cartel with each other, they can effectively sell/buy players to/from each other at massively inflated prices and give both clubs a cash boost that they may not have got if the player in question had gone elsewhere. for me this will be confirmed if between now and January we see a current psg player move to the chavs for what appears to be a significant market mark-up.

as said, probably me and my tin-foil hat but I smell a rat.

agree that the luiz transfer is very suspicius and i can understand how this helps the chavs. just cant understand how a setup like this can be made mutually beneficial. Iirc ffp looks at a clubs finances over three seasons. the luiz deal gives Chelsea a temporary respite but just makes PSG even more fucked

....after the 7-1 trashing Luiz's stock is worth sweet f*ck all in the real sense. He's a 10m quid defender at this point. Ah Jose Mourinho....you are a smart one arent you lad! (y)

Totally agree. Psg are currently in a worse position but as you say it's over 3 seasons and one big transfer can change everything. Let's see what happens between the chavs and Psg over the next 9 months. We'll revisit this for sure.

He's one of the best defenders in the world

Never been close to that. He is a mistake waiting to happen when playing at CB, and Mourinho knows it. His talent is there for all to see, but he is a his best when playing as a defensive midfielder so he can burst forward more freely and dont worry as much about positioning etch.
