Agree that what we need is more composure in the final third and as he doesn't bring that, as talented as he is. For the money it would take to get him it would be better spent elsewhere.

Don't agree about the tackle though. Yes he should have been sent off, but what Dembele did was far worse.

Barkley was reckless and could have easily snapped Henderson's ankle, Dembele could have at worst given Costa pink eye.

I think I'd rather the eye-brush than a sprinting studs up leg-breaker.

Dreadful decision making and hasn't made any progress over the last few years. Don't want him anywhere near our squad.

Having watched Barkley closely last night I have changed my opinion and don`t think he would offer anything to our squad

I'm so relieved to read the above comments. I've been saying it for ages, he's just not good enough. Not only for us, but certainly not for England. He has nothing in his game to improve our squad and that's what I've felt for some time. That tackle last night on Henderson was nothing but an act of cowardice, which for me, makes his temperament highly questionable too.

I am not interested in us signing him, but that doesn't mean he is a garbage player. He's suffering from a severe lack of confidence at the moment, so I don't think one should solely judge him on recent form.

I haven't judged him on recent form alone. I've been watching him closely for some time. He's just not good enough.

He looked so far off the pace on Monday it was untrue, i imagine that is what i would look like if you dropped me into a PL game, he was that sh*t.

His tackle was horrific as well and i cannot believe certain areas of the press are trying to absolve him from blame (and at the same time hang Sissoko out to dry for his tackle).

No thank you.

Ronald Koeman eyeing swap deal involving Ross Barkley and Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko

Ronald Koeman wants a sensational swap deal involving Ross Barkley and Moussa Sissoko.

The Everton boss has run out of patience with his enigmatic star and is ready to call time on his career at Goodison Park.

And the Dutchman hopes to engineer a switch with Spurs flop Sissoko, who has failed to settle at White Hart Lane.

Koeman made a late bid in the summer for the French international but was beaten to the punch by Tottenham who swooped to land the midfielder in a club record £30million deal from Newcastle United.

He remains keen on Sissoko and wants to add power to an engine-room that will be beefed up significantly in the next few weeks.

Spurs have been monitoring Barkley for some time and, given their work-load during the second half of the campaign with their Europa League commitments, need alternatives – particularly up front.

Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have been used behind Harry Kane but a free role for Barkley could work for boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Although swap deals are increasingly difficult because of the complicated nature of the contracts, a move would suit both players and clubs.

Sissoko’s value was £30m just a few months ago – and with Everton receiving that money back by off-loading Barkley – the move can easily be justified to both sets of supporters.

"Spurs flop Sissoko" :D

Not Sissoko's biggest fan, but he's adapting to a new style of play and has actually looked good in his last two or three appearances. Set up the winning goal in our last game too. Yeah what a flop!

Generally by family, friends and the local community I'm known as a bit of a fuckwit, but that Mirror story plumbs new depths of idiocy that even I won't buy it. As if Poch and Koeman are two chubby schoolboys swapping marbles at the beginning of break time- what fuckity-dolt falls for that?

Sissoko is getting better and better. As you would expect following getting used to all things new.

However, if the story above (Barkley or Sissoko) is remotely true (I doubt it is), I would snatch their hand off!!

I personally like sissoko, and I can see the flaws in Barkley's game like a lot of you have highlighted in posts on here. However, I believe Barkley's ceiling of potential is much much higher and with the help of Poch and co I think he has a much better chance of reaching it.

Anyway, just my opinion. Fully understand others will disagree.

If you watch him closely he has an obvious fallacy, which is in tighter spaces he plays with his head down, and when he does look up he's really indecisive.

Don't want this, 15m player at best- including the England squad player premium.

Wanted Barkley a while. But not sure he's actually a player we need, and certainly not now. Sissoko gives something different, the only shame is the price we had to pay for him

Barkley's not been showing much promise this season. But I'm surprised people are suggesting they wouldn't want him "anywhere near the squad". That's crazy!

He's extremely talented and you feel is the ideal kind of guy to respond to Pochettino's methods. Poch has previously said he loves taking on young players and improving them because they are more receptive and have to "unlearn" less. Barkley can on his day perform a Dembele like role. Whether he fulfils early promise however is another thing and the likelihood of us bidding that kind of money is almost zero.

Also, I doubt we'll let Sissoko go so early - he's starting to show how he can perform.

People are jumping on Barkley's back because of his poor form and horror challenge. Putting the challenge to one side a moment, how many people would be working their ass off if they had been told they're up for sale? not many.

With regard to the challenge, yes it was bad but it was also from a player who's pretty dejected at the moment... being in low spirits can cause you to do rash things.

Sissoko, yes he's improved recently but it's not right to slam Barkley and ignore Sissoko's discipline. He's had a red for an intentional elbow and should have been sent off against Burnley for another ugly knee high challenge.

In terms of ceiling Barkley's is potentially higher but is he what we need? not really, he's technically gifted but pretty sluggish and won't fit into our high energy team. Also, swapping him for Sissoko will leave us light on pace, power and width... something we're already short of. With ITK implying we're unlikely to bring any other players in we'll be once again signing a player we don't really need and letting a player go in a position that we're short of numbers.
