I.think the over rated tags people are giving him are way off the mark. He clearly needs to.be more consistent but he has huge ability imo, with the right coaching and guidance I think he could be an incredible player and one of England's best.

Poch has a great record working with young English talent, and if he can refine his game he could be a great fit for us.

This is exactly the time to move for a player, or should I say show them a bit of leg, when they're stock is quite low.

Not that it will ever happen this January.
Personally it's not a case of him being overrated or not, he's just the wrong type of player for us to acquire at this time.

We've already got Dele to develop who plays in the same role and is starting to have some of the sophomore slump issues that Barkley has been going through. I really can't see the point of acquiring someone else we would need to develop in that role.

It reminds me of when we bought Bentley whilst having Lennon. Whist the competition did up the latter's game - it was an expensive way to do it.

Barkley has massive potential but has lost his way..... I remember Henry and Berkamp having poor spells in Italy then coming to the premier league and becoming two of the best ever players. I would like to see us take a chance on him.Get him leaner, fitter and playing with more intensity and you will have a player..

A lot of people are comparing Dele and Barkley. I don't see it myself. I think Barkley is more similar to Winks, but if he played in our set up would probably take a role similar to Eriksen's. The big difference between Dele and Barkley is that if they ever played in the same team, it'd be Dele running on to Barkley's through balls, not the other way around.

As is to be expected, I suppose, we can be extremely partisan round here. Are we in a rush to write him off? Do you think football fans across the country are saying similarly dismissive things about Dele Alli, for example?
He hasn't got footballing intelligence and doesn't show any sign of developing any. He's technically talented but his decision making is piss poor. He's one of the most annoying players in the league for me because of it.

Have you ever watched Barkley at all? It doesn't seem like it.

He's like Dele cos he's not quite a No 8, not quite a No 10. His single biggest talent is picking up a ball and driving at a defence on the counter, sort of Gazza or Dembele-like. Good shot too.

But when he's face with packed defences and banks of four he's clueless. Decision making is so poor.

You seem to be confirming my view.

Barkley and dele have totally different skill sets

I think Barkley would be a good player for us but we need to sign quick players

jesus christ, just seen the tackle. utterly horrendous and worthy of a dembele level ban. i see the potential but he still runs around likie a headless chicken and decision making is terrible, especially in final third. not for me.

Agree that what we need is more composure in the final third and as he doesn't bring that, as talented as he is. For the money it would take to get him it would be better spent elsewhere.

Don't agree about the tackle though. Yes he should have been sent off, but what Dembele did was far worse.
