There are two issues with Barkley:

#1: His work off the ball is not good. He is nowhere near as tenacious as our other attacking midfielders in pressing and looking to win the ball back after losing it. Koeman is a very good manager, who likes his teams to press when they can and gets a lot out of his players. Barkley will have to up his workrate substantially if he wants to be in Pochettino's good graces.

I'm sure Poch and his coaches are well aware of his work rate. We wouldn't be interested in players that won't pull their weight.

One thing that I find encouraging is that when you go read Everton fans' thoughts on Barkley the most common criticism he gets is that he holds onto the ball too long and isn't decisive enough. This is something that Poch has helped Dembele to improve tremendously and I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect he might coax the same kind of improvement out of Barkley.

If Poch is able to get the best out of him he'd round out the squad really nicely, we could do with a player who can cover for both Dembele and Eriksen, IMO we're a bit thin in those areas.

Dembele continues to have those problems although in more recent games those issues haven't been as pronounced. But that doesn't mean he's overcome them. Had he improved in the areas you mentioned, he would've been world class.

Total made up story why would Barkley take a step down from Everton to join West Ham!

There's 140.000 reasons to join them. If he really is that hung up on getting a payday as the rumored negotiations on a new Everton contract would make it seem, he is much more likely to go to West Ham than us.

I don't think it is about money, Everton are throwing money in his direction in a new contract but it seems he is not biting.
There could well be truth in the West Ham story, they are daft enough to do it and anything they do they do in public, there's not a hope in hell he will go there though.

There is only one reason he'd go to West Ham, if he is absolutely desperate to get away from Liverpool and nobody else wants him. He'd be better off at Stoke City.

Don't mind him going to West Ham as that would tell you everything you need to know about his motivation. West Ham probably desperate and would throw money on anyone so their fans still think they're relevant, and Gold would be all over twitter gloating how they got one over us (dg). Obviously not mentioning how they offered him 100k a week to our 40k.

Having said that i really doubt he goes there and seems destined to join us at some point this summer

Thought he said he wanted to play at a CL club but if he goes to west ham then obviously he has no chance of it there more chance of championship football.

Reputationly, it would be a PR disaster for Barkley to go to Spam; the press would crucify him !
