He'll end up at United IMO, if he's turning his nose up at 100k a week at Everton he's not coming here.

Some players just want more salary to stay at particular clubs. See Sanchez at Arsenal.

Just because Ross doesn't like the money offer from Everton, does not mean he wouldn't accept less at a club set to to win trophies and play CL. Whether that's us or anyone else.

Agree. It is hard to imagine it is ALL about the contract there. That sort of thing doesn't go down well with fans, particularly considering that the offer is well publicised

Don't know why people always think that real life intelligence always equates to football intelligence, such a strange comparison.
Do not believe this rubbish about Barkley being thick. Remember it comes from Kelvin MacKenzie. After what he has said about Hillsborough nothing he says should be believed. He is an absolute disgrace to humanity.

Gazza's a good example. I wouldn't want him in my pub quiz team, but his imagination and intelligence on the field was often unbounded.

Not that I have much of an opinion on RB other than him being too expensive to sit on the bench, but then again we bought Sissoko so who knows?

Surely any comment on his 'intelligence' on here relates to his decisions and composure on the field? no one here knows how well he's done in his SATs so why would you assume it's to do with his IQ?

In games you can see him make mistakes - as all players do - but it's been 4yrs as a regular with Everton and nearly no progress in that time. Could be that Martinez and Koeman haven't been able to reach him or Everton isn't a club with the potential to develop, and therefore their better players stagnate.

It's a bit insulting to suggest people wonder about him based on something that piece of shit Kelvin MacKenzie said in a tabloid rag.

Nice post- my concern is that is he likely to challenge Alli, Eriksen, Son or Lamela (assuming he's with us next season) in terms of quality. I don't see it myself but Poch must see something there

Definitely still young enough to improve, and maybe a change will suit him. He keeps being overlooked for England as well. Needs to push on.

If Barkley wasnt English, you know which PL club he'd probably go to? West Ham(and thats even if a PL club would have wanted him. Coincidentally, that could very well be where he ends up anyway). He is quite simply not good enough and likely wont ever be. His age has nothing to do with it. He has the talent to be world class but he doesnt have the brains to be anywhere close to that. His talent is the only think keeping him at Everton. They are too far ahead of his level otherwise. He won't be a first XI player there next season. He would not even be a regular bench player next season if everyone is fit. And we shouldnt be signing someone like that for the amount of money Barkley would cost. You dont improve a team by signing someone who wouldnt have an impact in the team if everyone was fit.

how can you say these two things in the same sentence? so contradictory. if your not good enough then surely you dont have the talent to be world class.

There's definitely a player in there. Poch could work on him.

His decision making is definitely the problem. Constantly chooses the wrong option, often taking too long in possession. Presumably every coach he's ever had has tried to knock that out of him, but maybe Poch can succeed where others have failed. He's definitely going backwards as a player, his performance in the Merseyside derby recently was about as bad as you'll ever see.

Read the post. He's not good enough because he is dumb as a door knob. He has world class talent but will never actuslly realize it and will never be antwhere close to the level he should be at because his footballing brain is non existant.

I don't think the wages were the issue. Everton finished way ahead of the rest of the pack beneath them, but never looked like competing for top 6, let alone top 4. He could be forgiven for wanting to progress his career.

Also, when you look at the managers currently in place at the top PL sides, any of them could offer a lot in terms of developing him.

A Poch version of Ross Barkley will be much better than an Everton Ross Barkley.

Even if he comes in and doesn't improve us on an European stage, at least he's a proven PL player who we can rely on for creativity, assists and goals - unlike Sissoko. We suffered in October/November with Alli, Eriksen out of form and with Kane and Lamela being injured. Barkley's not a world beater but he does produce a consistent level of assists and goals that would have helped us through some of them draws.

I also believe a move out of his home city and the distractions that come with it would do him the world of good and I sense he probably feels the same.

We were told that Son would run down blind alleys and could have games where he was anonymous, and whilst that's true, Sonny has piled in with a large contribution of goals and assists - he's also improved his workrate under Poch. I reckon Poch would do the same with Barkley, open his eyes a bit and allow him to reach his potential.
