Redknapp to target Van Nistelrooy, Babel and Upson
HARRY REDKNAPP is determined to be the Premier League’s busiest manager in January - after launching a shock bid to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Tottenham boss Redknapp has got his sights set on van Nistelrooy, Liverpool outcast Ryan Babel and West Ham defender Matt Upson.
Wheeler dealer Redknapp is desperate to launch a major shake-up of his squad in January with Robbie Keane, David Bentley, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Alan Hutton all on their way out of White Hart Lane.
But they will be shipped out to fund another big Tottenham spending spree as Redknapp has been told by chairman Daniel Levy that he must sell before he can buy.
Redknapp is desperate to revive former Manchester United striker van Nistelrooy’s career in the Premier League by brokering a cut-price deal with Real Madrid.
Van Nistelrooy, 33, wants to quit Real Madrid in January after falling down the pecking order and the Spanish giants may be willing to let him go at the right price.
Redknapp, however, may have to convince his chairman to sign van Nistelrooy because of the Dutchman’s injury record.
But Redknapp said of van Nistelrooy recently: “He’s a top player, if he’s anywhere near fit I’m sure he can still play for a while. He would come over here and score, he was always has done.
“Tottenham is a big club - we shouldn’t be afraid to compete with these clubs in the transfer market. But what would I do? I have Crouch, Keane and Defoe and Pav. If I got Van Nistelrooy, I give myself another problem.”
