Just thinking about it, the move does make more sense. Saha gave masterclass in playing the lone striker in his last season at Fulham, it was the main reason Fergie signed him, as he wanted to change the way united play in Europe.

He's also played the lone front man regularly at Everton, the difference being that he won't have to push his fragile body here, and fingers crossed will most be used as an impact sub. The difference between playing the lone front man with Everton and us is that our shape is much more attacking, and he will get more chances.

Dennis Irwin once told my pal Paul Ivers, that Saha was the best player he ever saw at Utd.Which is some statement considering who he played with.

I would rep you if i could.

Well said mate, the lone striker role at Everton will be alot different to what we are asking him to do. At Everton, as was plain to see last night, its not so much a goal scoring role than a relief and chasing role. Chasing down defenders and staying open for the long ball and holding. In our system it should be ball to feet and waiting for a runner, also with us he wont be so isolated and will get alot more quality ball, I am actually quite excited to see him play. He's a worker and not here for the pay cheque.

Miles better than Pav in that he be the lone man. Only downside isthat he is a bit injury prone. If he avoids any major prangs then we have ourselves someone who can backup Ade or play well up front alongside JD.

Shrewd signing.

Not sure if already posted but I like Saha's last line of his parting statement to Everton fans...

Saha added: “I have a big challenge ahead, which is why I felt it was right to go. I am not going to step down and I think I am joining the most dynamic and exciting team in the country at the moment.”

I always liked him and thought he would be a good signing last year were it not for his age (I didn't realise he was as old as he is) and injury record. As a mid season signing, I think it could be a good one- only maybe Zamora would be better but his snarl is annoying and he is less cultured than Saha.

I think we should widen our horizons in our transfer strategy somewhat and we have made some good signings from further afield (Sandro being a case in point) but in January you need players to come in who are used to this league and do a job. If he stays fit, I can see Saha doing that.

As an Everton fan, someone above got it spot on. he was playing a lone striker role for us. his legs were not upto that anymore. but he still has quality and you could do a lot worse than having him sitting on the bench for the next year or so. He has got great ability and speed of thought. but he needs service. we needed someone to lead the line. and that just wasnt him anymore.

I can see him scoring some big goals for you lot if not regular.

Another French/african player. Can't go that much wrong, really. He is 33, but a lot of experience and will gel in better at Spurs than at boring Everton. A no brainer on a free :)

Pretty much this. It is like when we tried playing Darren Bent as a lone striker in the past but it didn't work at all because our midfield was so detached from him and he was pretty much isolated all the time and easily marshalled out of the game by the opposition defenders. Now we are far better suited to playing it because we have midfielders (and even defenders) who will get involved, overlap and often our striker is only the 3rd of 4th furthest forward player.

I can see Saha doing pretty well for us and I'm reasonably happy to have him as a short-term solution.

Good player for the short term. I also like that he is old for some reason...

6 month contract. I can't see the future so I don't know whether we take up the option next summer. What I do know is that our strikers will look something like this when the season ends.

Defoe

And that's it.

Meaning we must sign Ade on a permanent and/or someone else (Llorente, Remy, Damiao) in the summer. Exciting times ahead.

Yeh I quite like that he is old too. I think we'll still have Saha next season as well though, isn't it an 18 month contract? There as always been something about Saha, he's scored against a lot of big sides, has a great left foot (something which I like a lot in a striker), great spring and his movement is still good. I think people writing him off just because he is 34 and has scored 2 goals this season is a little off the mark.

I think he'll have close to double figures (including the Everton 2) by the end of the season.

6 months with a club option for another 12.

Make no mistake, this guy is a dangerous player; if he can stay fit then he'll add another dynamic for us up front. Excited about this one.

The more I think about this the more I think it is a really shrewd buy.
