I actually said we should have signed him on loan this time least year ;-)

I will go find the quote

Here it is: :)

I think there were players available but we weren't prepared to outbid our rivals. Anybody could see that Suarez is a top striker and he's already proving it at the scousers. £24m seems like an OK price. I don't think that Carrol is worth 30 but at least he is young and you would know that he can score goals in the prem. Dzeko was always going to go for big money and the Citeh were going to offer whatever was needed but in the end they didn't pay stupid money on the transfer fee and he might have preferred to play in the latter stages of the CL for £100k a week instead of Europa for £150k. But all this comes down to the fact that we can only pay those wages with revenue from a new stadium or qualifying for the CL and having a good run season after season. And we just can't do that.

One player I thought might be worth a look was Saha. See if we could get him for 6 months for a decent loan fee. Big solid (unlike crouch) lump who can throw his weight around, get on the end of a ball with feet and head and not short of skill. A different option when the opposition parks the bus and finesse doesn't work so well. Reckon he'd have been well up for a swansong in the CL and big prem games. Just crashed his Ferrari apparently, which doesn't look good

A point worth noting on the 'would we be up there with Man U thing' - they are still getting the benefit of decsions, compared to us - if it's not the complete dog's breakfast of last season. We were robbed against Blackpool. Rooney should have been sent off against Wigan and it now turns out that he won't even be banned. Their 'win' over us in the Autumn. It goes on and on. So we shouldn't be too unhappy to be 13 points behind them at this stage without a level playing field

Yes let's not get carried away after essentially one game...!

But a good start for sure.

I 'Kevin Keegan' the living daylights out of this post.

Why's that? I said in another thread Saha would be effective playing in a 4-4-2, and guess what? He was. Just like Defoe is. But can he play backup to Adebayor?
