There's no update on Newcastle's bid for Saido Berahino from West Brom assistant manager Dave Kemp, who's been speaking to the media to preview Tuesday's match against Swansea.

He expects Berahino to be in the squad for that game. "Saido picked up a slight knock in training but we are hoping he will be fit for tomorrow," he says.

I belive the answer to him coming to us is a no.

Nothing to get excited about this window!

Newcastle just signed Doumbia on loan from Roma. Do they really need another striker?

I hate being optimistic about this, because deadline day deals lately have been a bust, but the Pritchard stuff is just way too positive to ignore as not being meaningful.

On the BBC live text, someone has said they swear they just saw him on the North Circular.

Explanations for why Levy wouldn't just pay whatever it takes to get the deal done:

- We don't have the cash
I don't buy it. If Toon and Stoke have it, we have it.
- The price is too high
But we bid £22m in the summer, and it seems that's still the highest offer they've had for him. So it'd be there or thereabouts to what we've already offered.
- It'd be a panicky money-spunk
Not true, because we wanted Bera in summer, and he fits in perfectly with our transfer policy. So he's a long-term buy who happens to fit a squad gap, not the other way around.
- We have cover in Chadli and Son
But that doesn't sound like Poch's thorough, professional approach to his squad, and particularly positions 1-22. He only has 1-21 covered at the moment.
- Poch doesn't want him any more
I don't buy this either - you don't change your mind about such a big deal in a few months. If Poch wanted him in August he must still want him now.
- Levy is just an awkward, stingy git
Meh. I've never really bought this about Levy.
- WBA simply won't sell
Possible

Only the last answer really adds up. All other explanation fall a bit flat for me.

This feels a bit like Damiao in January 2013.

A morsel of hope around lunchtime, only for the 'will not be moving in this window' killer statement from the Chairman at about 5pm.

I just keep thinking how strong our squad will look for the run in if he joins us.

This past summer, didn't someone post a photo stating "With Berahino in London, asked him about Spurs and he gave me a thumbs up!" but with a photo of Bolasie?
