Rubbish, you're purely saying that because he is English and played at Wigan and now at Sunderland. He's a very good player.

He's been doing very well at Sunderland to boot.

Not a massively glamourous player but he gets stuck in and adds some good bite and these players are just as important as the creative players, sometimes more so against teams like Bolton.

Have to agree every sucessful teams needs a few grafters, just look how Fletcher's done for ManU this year.

To be honest, playing against Universidad de Chile isn't precisely playing against Chelsea, despite both teams having blue Adidas jerseys. If Sandro joins us in the summer, he'll have to get used to the pace first and most importantly, to play DM in small, crowded pitches. In Brasil they blay in huge pitches, with a lot of space and time to think and recover positioning.

Great. So we know all about this player - where and how he will play, what the fans will think of him, what it means for the rest of our midfield, where Wilson will play, bla bla bla. All from watching 60 mins of football - quite incredible really. Good that we Spurs fans dont jump the gun.

I wonder if one of our strikers misses a simple header, Harry will say

"Even Sandro would have scored that"

Nonsense. If anything I would rate him higher because he was English. I managed to go to a few Wigan home matches last year (my uni housemate is a latic), plus all 3 times we played them in League and cup, and also watched him a hell of alot on the box, and everytime i have seen him I have been underwhelmed to say the least. Your assumption that I don't rate him simpy because of the clubs he has played for is therefore unfounded! Cheers though x

i read somewhere recently that he signed a new deal. Anyone know if it was official? I was really excited about watching him until I heard this. Bit like taarabt, seems he wants to leave so I dont knot what to think whenever I see a new highlights vid of him.

Also, I thought he was going to captain the U20 brazil side? Tournament started yesterday

Cole can defend well though.

Bale may well become a good defender himself. Cole at 19/20 was a very good attacking fullback who needed to work on the defensive side of his game as well.

Agree to a point, as usual it looks good on paper - unfortunatly the real difference is in class and performance - Chelski perform week in week out - will Bale, Naughton, Sandro, Lennon, Defoe and crouch? We have always had great prospects (on paper) that is why we seem to get link with top 4 all the time, problem is, we are just not consistent enough, a lot of our players are either not proven, or have the experience of the Chelski team! Yes I know it is 3 years, but in 3 years, will Naughton, Bale or all of the names mentioned still be he, or still be considered prospects! I for one certainly hope so........but time will tell...one thing is for sure, it ain't this year! And without King, Woody, Modric, and "ANother" in the middle won't be!

Oh I don't for a moment dare compare the class and quality of the two sides. We'd be fortunate if Bale and Naughton became anywhere near as good as Cole and Bosingwa, while I'm not for a moment trying to imply that Defoe and Crouch have anywhere near the world class credentials of Drogba and Anelka. I'm merely allowing my mind to think of the possibilities.

Looks like someone didn't read their Dr Seuss as a 3 year old . Nothing wrong with some harmless speculation and imagination.

Good opening post by IOMLS.

However, chileanspursfan's observations are also highly relevant.

Luke Modric is a sublime footballer and was used to playing in European league and international football when we signed him, but it still took him at least half a season to adapt to the pace and lack of space of EPL football.

In addition, before we get too excited, there were also reports that I saw somewhere on SC that Sandro had allegedly signed a new long-term contract with Internacional, with a buyout clause of 30 million (Euros?).

Cheers InOffMeLeftShin - very interesting write up. Personally I would be more than happy to have a true DM in the team.

How is his pace. From what you say he sounds no slouch.

Before we start calling him the new whatever, it was only one game. I'd be interested to hear what formation Inter played - was he the deep lying of three central midfielders or just two?

He sounds like he has ability and a bit of defensive awareness and intelligence that no one else in our team, certainly our midfielders. Will take him time to get used to the premiership as well as his teammates but hopefully he can, in time, become the midfield general we badly need

He sounds like a great prospect, a young Makalele. I definately wants us to sign him based on these observations. If he is a pure defensive midfielder and not particularly creative it might means we have to change our game in the long term as to not lose out from an attacking sense.

When carrick was our holding DM he had plenty of creativity. In Makaleles Chelsea, there were two other strong box-to-box players in midfield but only one up front. In Sandros current team there seem to be full back who are confideyt going forward. We would have none of these options in our current setup. If he simpley camein for, lets say, Jenas in our 442 would we still perform effectively as a defensive and attacking unit?

And if we do sign him, he'll be moving a huge distance to a new country, culture and language. Even if the fee is large hopefully we won't expect too much too soon. I remember Carrick got slated a lot for doing nothing because people didn't appreciate his good positioning and interceptions. I hope the same thing wouldn't happen with sandro. Hopefully a few crunching tackles would get the crowd on his side.
