Sandro's reading of the game is similar to Carrick's. He makes lots of interceptions by his understanding of play.

If he can gain some confidence and get involved higher up the pitch, he will be some player.

I had a feeling he'd fair well against this Milan team. Generally allowed more time on the ball than in the Prem and that suits him down to the ground.

Still don't think he's quite ready for games like Arsenal or Chelsea coming up, but we should perhaps try to continue with him at Blackpool.

He is pretty reckless when challenging from behind and can give away stupid fouls. I guess most DMs do this, but he needs to pick his spots better. Played very well though.

I agree. He is not perfect but he is improving all the time. He is young and inexperienced in English football and I'm sure you'd agree that he could easy overcome that flaw very soon.

There is a lot of talk about here about explaining why he was poor before - the answer is nothing to do with formations or partnerships. Its simple - it takes time to adjust to the quality and pace of our league.

He did well tonight. But I was more impressed by his game against Sunderland. He's clearly improved since his first outing against Bolton. Learning the game and progressing. That's all you can ask for.

Tonight, it felt like a perfect game for him, as Milan weren't pressing much in the first half. He had time and space to make descisions. And when they did start pressing in the second, he adjusted nicely.

So young... hard not to see him getting better. Only time will tell though.

Exactly. Excellent positional play. And there was a moment in the first half I so thought shooooooot but he attempted a cross instead.

He has a ton of potential.

It's great to see him making an impression.

6 years ago if we'd spent £7m on a young Brazilian international he'd be hyped up and under so much pressure and scrutiny that he'd almost certainly fail.

Nowadays we can bring these guys through slowly and integrate them properly into the team. Sandro's ball playing ability and his reading of the game will make him a success in the English game.

One thing that particularly impressed me was his tracking back, a number of times he tracked right back into the area, couple of times to make blocks and right at the end to make a stunning sliding tackle. Lad looks quality.

If Sandro and Wilson are the future then we need a new formation

No they arent the future. Modders is without doubt first choice.

Sandro I would say is the long term partner.

Why a different formation though? The two you mentioned are perfectly suited to a 442

Everyone played well tonight, but the last two matches this lad has come on and done his part.
Was fantastic tonight, breaking play up and wanting to be involved. He is what we hoped Palacios would be.

Can see him being in our CM for years to come. Hudd will have to work hard to get back into the team as Sandro seems to be pushing for the starting roll.

There may be blood spilled if there happens to be ketchup in said roll

The guy has won the Brasilian championships & the Copa Libertadores...he already knows the game FFS!

It`s just the speed of the premiership he needs to adjust to.

Yeah yeah, some of us knew he was quality months ago.

Where is the guy who said playing with Sandro at the moment would be like playing with 10 men? :hello:

He's generally not been given easy games either. Usually some cobbled together team/formation. He would have seemed a lot better coming into our full strength team.

I think tonight was an indication that he can do just that. I know CL football is supposedly less intense than the Premier League but I don't think you can say that about this game. In the 1st half we dictated the pace & in the second Milan upped their workrate to match ours so I doubt it was lacking PL intensity in any way. I mean, if that'd been say, Stoke we'd have been saying, "that was a tough game but that's what you expect away at a team like...blah-blah..."

Back to the point though, Sandro played a huge part in that. He didn't do anything spectacular really (one magnificent sliding block aside) but he was always in the right places to make interception & tackles & played the simple pass to retain posession. If he can translate that into the PL on a week-to-week basis then we've got a serious player on our hands.

Chuffed for Sandro, great debut into the Champion's League. He was gutted he wasn't included last time, but that was for the best. Also, must have been nice considering all the great Brazilian talent in Milan's side including Pato, both of whom grew up in Internacional's youth setup.
