Scotland have the small task of beating the world chapions to make it to a national cup compatition since France 98.

Unlike England, Scotland's chances of qualifing is still in their own hands. They could be the only home nation to make it to the Euro championship but its not going to be an easy game.

I still say England have a greater chance of qualifying than Scotland do. It is still in Scotland's hands, but I'm adamant that the chances of England being at the Euro's are greater than those of Scotland being there.

That said, I will be cheering both Scotland and Israel on, hoping that the the English and the Scottish will meet in the summer, and I don't mean in the Home Nations or in a friendly

Mon the Scots

To add to that, the teams:

Scotland (likely): Gordon, Hutton, Weir, McManus, Naysmith, Brown, Ferguson, Fletcher, McCulloch, Hartley or Miller, McFadden.

Italy (likely): Buffon, Oddo or Panucci, Cannavaro, Barzagli, Grosso or Zambrotta, Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Camoranesi, Toni, Di Natale.

Personally, I think Scotland will be shooting themselves in the foot if they start this one with a 4-5-1. Italy are very likely to be playing 3 defensive minded central midfielders in
Pirlo, Gattuso and Ambrosini. If Scotland leave McFadden up front on his own, this match has draw written all over it. Of course, a draw would be enough if the Ukraine beat France in their final game, but surely Scotland have got to go all out for the win?

It sounds like they are going for a 451, agree with you that it will just kill the game. Scotland will realy need to watch high balls into the box though. I dont remeber any of Scotland's players beeing tall or brilliant in the air, will have their work cut out with Toni.

Different teams buddy... One was an arrogant bunch who thought they could win quite easily (twice!). The other lot are one of (if not the) meanest defencive teams on the Planet, who are blatantly playing for the draw.

Agreed. It was Toni would did the business in Italy. McManus and Weir will need to be at their very best if they're to keep the Italians out. The good thing is that Scotland will be well, well up for this, which will hopefully lead to some top performances.

My worry is that for all of Scotland's effort, Italy will be quite happy to soak the pressure up and play for the point.

i have a feeling Gattuso may well be up for this match as well, and perform above his normal standered as well.

has the making of a very good match, but may well be a let down. But will still be better than watching England

different teams they might be but with all of scotland behind them they are capable of beating any team at home. i know its a tall order but i hope they can do it.

What isn't?

But yeah, Rino will be well up for this, for obvious reasons. Sadly, a Gattuso on form is fuckin' horrible to play against. I still can't quite work him out :) He's really not that naturally talented, but he's the kind of player that gives 110% from start to finish. What I'd give to have him in our midfield

But yeah, having both Pirlo and Ambrosini cramming the midfield along with Rino, it's obvious Italy are concentrating on not losing.

Oh yeah me too! My girlfriend's Mum is throwing a party tonight, regardless of how the match goes, basically to celebrate a brilliant 2 years of Scottish football. Wish we could do that sort of thing down here :-(

The Scots hate the English with a vengeance, for some strange reason the English usually want Scotland to qualify/do well. Unrequited love eh ?

That's fucking bollocks, a few small minded individuals may hate the english but, the scots overall no more hate the english than the english hate the scots.

Goes too far for me, but that's just me

I'm off for a cigarette, a beer, and to catch some build up before it starts.
