Juan Foyth has to happen before this I'm assuming. We can't buy Aurier to give PSG the money to go up against us for Foyth so first Juan and then him.
Foyth's ~10mil transfer won't really influence anything at all for PSG.

It's kind of like wondering if a guy driving around a Ferarri can afford a can of coke.

I had forgotten about the referee thing - everything else happened within like 2 months of each other right? Unless he's continued slagging his teammates off all last year, which I haven't seen. I think people are bundling it up into one big bender of bad choices, rather than "repeated behavior". I dunno what steps he's taken to "reform" since then, but it says something that although PSG froze him out completely initially, they did try to reintegrate him and want to keep him. Not sure what exactly, but something.

I also think this is the kind of signing where Poch will certainly have spoken to the player, and wouldn't say "sí" unless he was convinced that shite was behind him. Not that Poch can't be wrong, but at this point I trust him an irrational amount.

Also encouraging is that this is happening pre-deadline-day, where it would feel like a desperate grab at a problem player - being interested two to three weeks out means it may actually be a player we want..
All true, but it's still a worry.

I often find people with a history of lets call it ill-judged decisions don't often fix themselves within a year or to be honest ever.

Everyone here wants to think he's apologized so now it's all good and he'll never make a mistake that brings his club into disrepute again, but I wonder what their take on Jamie Vardy and John Terry is?

Going off this video alone, he will be a poor choice. Just in the first two minutes you will see him slide tackle 90% and will see him sent off so easily in the EPL. He seems to go in hard and if the other player gets injured, even better. Not the type of player I was hoping for.
Have to admit his timing of the tackles shown is perfect.

I've just seen on a French site that Aurier's appeal against his prison sentence was heard on August 7th. I've no idea how long you wait for verdicts in France.

Well it's the french courts so they're probably still at lunch. I say give it another 4 days or so.

The police officer assault.
Slagging off his manager using homophobic slurs.
Slagging off numerous teammates.
Banned by UEFA for making another video calling a ref a dirty son of a bitch.

In general he's got a habit of making really dumb social media videos. That at best get him banned by UEFA and at worst make a dressing room distraction and get him banned from the club.

He keeps making these videos and apologizing though, so for some it's all good.

He also drew criticism for his throat slitting gesture against another rival west African nation during the same game that he helped save the guy from choking during an epileptic fit, but I don't see that one as that bad - just dumb.

Blanc and team mates was same video so not a repeat :)

Who knows about the true police assault because if you are from an ethnic minority you learn that policemen are not all fair in their approach to black people especially. prejudice by those in authority and power is much worse in France than it is in the uk and it is bad enough here!!

I am sure there are people in this forum who call refs much worse than "son of a bitch"

He seems like he needs some maturity and Poch and Levy will need to make a judgement on that after speaking to him..

Sorry, mate: you just earned yourself my very first ever WTF?! rating on SC. :(:sorry:

Why? I just saw the same first two, three minutes you´re referring to and this showcases impeccable timing and world class tackles! And to address the getting others injured: all (every single one) of the tackles shown, he´s going in with his feet low and pointing down - never showing his studs; clean and of the highest class. If anything, this should be shown to young and aspiring footballers as examples on how to perform perfect tackles! :ninja::)

My heart was set on Pereriera. And I wasn´t totally onboard about this guy. But, after watching this video I´m actually convinced Aurier would be an upgrade to Walker. (y)

It was more referring to the fact that he seems to like going to ground, and they are not going to show his bad tackles on a highlight video. If he does that quite often, then he's likely to get himself booked or sent off a fair bit in the EPL. If he can do that and never foul, then awesome. But I can't see that being the case. If you feel a WTF is necessary, fair enough. But I'm just going off what I see.

Depends if he can do that perfectly every time. I hope so.
in the same way that a YouTube clip will only show good tackles, so missed the bad tackles, it is also likely to only show the moments of interest. For attackers that's goals, defenders tackles. A short clip will be 90% slide tackles because who the hell wants to watch a video of players just walking around being positionally astute. Good defending is boring. Defenders can't be judged on clips.

That he goes to ground often is one thing, and impossible for me to comment as I haven´t followed PSG and seen him in matches over a periode of time. But the way he´s shown so consistenly doing "clean" slide tackles (not with raised feet and not showing studs), looks to me as it is a very trained in behaviour.

But; fair enough, mate. We´re seeing this differently. No harm in that - opposite views makes for a more interesting debate. (y)COYS!

Firstly, can people drop the whole "if Poch is happy then that's good enough for me" bullshit when it comes to signing controversial players. Stop being such a blind fanboy. People said he was wrong to go after Osvaldo, Sissoko, Berahino and the fan boys leapt to his defence every time but not one of those players have shown any justification of the faith he showed in them. He is a superb manager but has got this kind of call wrong on many occasions in the past - his judgement isn't perfect. Learn to think for yourselves.

From experience, I find that as long as players are delivering on the pitch our fans don't really care what they've done off it. Hoddle said some disgusting things about disabled people. Van Der Vaart beat up his wife. King and Woodgate both got arrested for assaults and allegedly said racist things during them. Defoe was a serial love rat and IIRC ended someone else's marriage. These guys for the most part are loved by our fans. If Aurier came here, got his head down, performed well and stayed out of trouble then nobody would give a shit about what he's done in the past.

Having said that, I have my doubts about leopards changing their spots. Yes, you have examples of some players who have done, but for every Cantona/Van Persie there are a load more Taraabts, Balotellis and Ravel Morrisons who leave behind them a long trail of managers who think they can change them but ultimately fail. Poch has proved ruthless in getting any bad eggs out of the squad the second they step out of line, and this to me seems like an accident waiting to happen. Perhaps he could succeed here but I can't think of many players with "extra baggage" that we've gambled on who have been successes, think Bentley, Sissoko, Dalmat...Adebayor was good at times before he turned back into Adebayor. I guess Gallas was a decent enough signing on a free.

But anyway. Aurier isn't allowed into the country. This isn't speculation - he literally was denied entry when trying to come to London. Surely that makes this a complete non-starter and this entire discussion completely pointless anyway?
