The monthly sub has increased from £9.99 per month to £12.99 per month! :eek:mg:

I've got Sky and was thinking of cancelling my Setanta sub at the end of last season as they had shown hardly any Spurs games in 2008

However, they announced that they will be showing the Norwich friendly so I thought I'd wait until Setanta announced the first lot of EPL games in 2008-09 before making a final decision

The possible televised games (tbc) show that our games won't be on until Sat Nov 8 – Man City (A) and Mon Dec 1 Everton (H)

You have to give one month's notice to cancel and there's a increased reconnection fee of £14.99

And DON'T whatever you do pay the annual fee up front - it's the same as the monthly sub!

All in all Setanta is a rip off

Try ringing them on 0191 501 3601 to cancel - you may be able to get a deal

Pfft for the handful of Spurs matches they show you would be better be off down the pub than paying 12.99 a month.

This is always going to be the worry with "providers"

I just went totally with Sky for all my stuff, if they put the money up then.... what do I do ?

Mebbe I tell them NO

what do you mean?
surely if i've cancelled the monthly payment, thats the end of it. No?

no they are a nightmare to deal with, if you just cancel the dd they will write, phone, asking for new details and quoting their cancellation policy - we know of cases where debt collection agencies have been involved so check the google responses on how to deal with them.

To cancel you have to write a letter, not even an email and it doesn't matter how you took out the contract. I had this told me on friday, I'm going to be delving deep into UCTA cases to see if this could be an unfair contract term. I certainly wasn't made aware of it when the terms were hastily read out over the phone and i wasn't sent anything by post. I know the TC's are on their website but I think it would be deemed unreasonable for them to expect everybody to have internet access to be able to check the cancelation policy... I'll let you know what I come up with, at the very least a strongly worded letter will be be sent to the ombudsman :)

If you get cable you'll get Setanta pretty much for free! We get the sports package (including all Sky Sports and Setanta channels) along with 10mb broadband for £52 a month. I think Sky Digital, with its sports bundle (excluding Setanta), is something like £40 so it's well worth getting a Virgin package

i've got Sky, and was under the impression that because Setanta was a monthly subsciption with (presumably) no contract, that you could just stop the payments and thus stop your subsciption.

i set Setanta up over the phone, so signed no contract anyway

but when you do it online you tick the box to agree the terms and conditions - argubly a contract of sorts

all cable/sky leaves you stuck between a rock and a hard place, as mentioned in various different area's of the site.

i've have 3 months of issues with VM but we want to keep the sport so the other option is sky but that means reconnecting BT line, Sky dish, sky box and then paying for bothe sports channels, 1 set of which we get free at the moment. PLus then sorting out broadband, being with out it while and wasting time doing it all...

its a pain! All just to watch a few games of footy at home type convience :s

Thats a common mis-conception, its a contract for services for an indefinate period with a 1 month notice period. If you look at the marketing it's marketed as 'no 12 month contract' Which in my opinion is very misleading to the consumer...

It is a contract anyway, however you take it out... However there is an obligation to draw attention to any term that may be deemed unusual or erroneous. Having to cancel a contract, taken out by phone/internet, via snail mail is in my opinion unusual, especially given that you can cancel sky via telephone and Setanta certainly did not draw my attention to the term!
