Shameful minutes ‘silence’

I really hope the people who couldn’t keep their mouths shut and opinions to themselves are named/shamed/identified and are made extremely unwelcome at our great club, by the vast majority of our fans who are/were impeccable
Just no. If you’re going to entertain the idea of a ‘queen’ in 2022, then I hope it gets backlash at every opportunity.

Isn't it normally announced prior to the game and at the game? The club announced we were doing it. It was expected as well being the first game in this country for us after it happened.

Not even sure it needed to be announced for this one. I mean it was clearly going to be done for the Queen.

Was in the West Lower and it was impeccably observed from where I was but you are always going to get a few intoxicated potty mouths coming in just before kick off and a lot of shouters around the stadium seemed to be people trying to shut them up.
Hair on the back of my neck was standing up when the National anthem was sung - well done Spurs.

Sounded silent on TV and the comm's didn't mention it not being perfectly observed.

Not doubting what's been said, just that i don't think it shamed us as much as you believe.

She just died. One minute to stay quiet is all that’s being asked. Plenty of time after the funeral for people (including myself) to voice disagreement at the monarchy. Its potentially the beginning of the end. Just wait.

I doubt that but I hope so, for their sake too. What good is a life of unearned wealth and privilege if you have to deal with your fawning ‘subjects’ at every turn. The queen was the biggest prisoner on Earth, and what’s being done to the children born into this shitshow seems like a form of abuse.

Yeah it’s clearly got many perks but I honestly would not want to be in their position.

Doxing them? Banning them? Shaming them? Bit draconian, mate! ?
Based on the ratings that might be the most divisive post I’ve written on SC and I was only being a bit facetious. Funny how some might interpret that to mean I am somehow in agreement that they shouldn’t be punished or that what they did was fine. It wasn’t and is foul behavior. Apologies if anyone was offended by my comment. And thought I was in support of what they did. I am not. It was some of the suggested measures to be taken against them I thought could be a little heavy handed and dangerous.

I have seen first hand the impact of doxing. And death being the net result. So, I’d like to think that most sensible folks understand that there are a lot of insensible morons out there who use info like that to cause real harm. Someone being disrespectful and booing does not deserve to have themselves or their loved ones put in harms way. Sorry, if many disagree with that. But then again I live in a country with a lot of guns and people who like to use them. And sometimes they miss their target and hit a kid. That was my experience with doxing.

Ban them? Fine. Name them? Not so fine.

It would be very easy for the club to review footage and identify those that disrespected the minutes silence. Simply ban them.
You can't ban them for not observing the minute's silence. Freedom of speech includes the right to shock and offend, so long as what you're saying isn't illegal (i.e. racist etc).

I am in the camp of showing respect, despite not being a "Royalist" I think the death of Elizabeth has weirdly brought a divided country somewhat together. Off topic, yes, but I'm just saying my personal belief is that the minute's silence ought to have been respected. But that doesn't mean I have the right to assert my belief on someone who thinks it better to shout during the minute's silence.

I am not saying arrest them or put them in prison. Simply stop individuals that want to act that way from attending our games in future. It is totally within the club's discretion to decide who they want to enter their stadium or not. So yes, you can ban them. And I am not talking about accidental disruptions (where people enter from the concourse singing or shouting without realising there is a minutes silence in progress). I am talking about individuals who deliberately disrespect a minutes silence to offend the 10's of thousands of people who are observing it.

Banning people for a political view is pretty much the tactics used by the Kremlin. Someone who deliberately disrespect's a minute's silence, is exactly that: disrespectful. It's distasteful, rude & in my opinion, wrong. But that's my opinion. We are going backwards in what people can and can't say. We are limiting freedom of speech. This is a scenario where the expression (shouting or singing during a minute's silence) is deemed wrong by a vast majority. But that doesn't mean we have the right to limit that one person's right to shout or sing.

That's all I'm saying. Tomorrow it could be a political view that the Monarchy should be abolished. I should also point out that there are very many people that view the monarchy as symbolic of past crimes of the Empire. Should we also ban them? It's an extreme example, yes, but the same principle.

Comes down to the old saying: "I disagree with what you say (or shout in this instance), but I will defend to the death your right to say it".

I'm not British, and I must say I find the idea (generally) of Royalty incomprehensible, however, never, in my wildest dreams would I disrupt a minutes silence.

It's just disrespectful to the people who want to observe it. No matter who it's for!!

Didn’t sound good in the south stand! Though I have to say the stewarding and management by club wasn’t very good. They announce to be in yr seats at 5.20 then were blocking us going in at 5.15

With all the racist and misogynistic language and behaviour on display every time I visit the stadium it doesn't surprise me in the least. There are ****s out there, far too many of them, but what you gonna do apart from call out individuals as you see it happen?

Not surprisingly sadly.

Im not even a monarchist, but Christ, have some respect and dignity for yourself. Keep it shut for 2 minutes.

Don’t agree with the monarchy? Go and find some republican causes or MPs and support them.

As President Obama once said, “don’t boo…vote!”
