Sigardsson doesn't deserve to be a number 10 in our team

Whatever happened to fans getting behind their players and supporting them. This was the first game of a long bloody season and he's getting slated!!! I thought he did alright bar one fairly big error.

very few are slating him really, more just pointing out that he isn't the right type to play that very important role in the team and if Bale doesn't return it's something that must be addressed with a purchase

Thor can play in this position (as an attacking midfielder like Michu, not No. 10) but he needs others around him to think quickly and move appropriately. Soldado will be a big help but its still difficult when you've got Lennon and Walker (they see a lot of the ball) making bad decisions and slowing play down too often.

Holtby can play that role (No 10.) and he played it well at Schalke with Huntelaar, Farfan and Draxler but even he says his future lies deeper in midfield.

Dembele can't be trusted in that position because he doesn't play with his head up enough and when he does look up he often makes the wrong decision and switches to iso mode, missing off the ball runs in the process.

Bale also can't play there because he doesn't have the nous for it, he struggles to find space when he starts centrally and nowadays he's a shoot on sight player (for better or worse). He also isn't a good dribbler.

Chadli can play there but he's new so lets see what happen when he's settled.

Basically we need Willian (or someone with similar attributes) and all will be well.

We spend 60 million and will probably spend quite a lot more to make a push for the title this season and also convince Bale to stay if the itks are to be believed. If he is going to be our creative midfielder this season, we might as well pack it in now. We are so close to being a force. We are not going to concede much this season, but we are not going to score much if he is our AMC.

I like Siggy, think he has an important role as a squad member this season...prefer him on the left actually.

Don't think he'll be first choice on a regular basis once our business is sorted though.

Looks a confidence player to me. Plenty of ability. A proper run and I think he'd be at least 10 goals a season. Could have had two today.

It is truly farcical that we brought in Siggy and consequently shipped out VDV. I think he has a place in the squad but he isn't fit to lace Rafa's boots.

We bought Siggy in July and shipped out Rafa on deadline day. Hardly bought as a replacement and considering VdV has been gone for a year maybe get over it?

He was okay. He must start to take his chances. But when the Bale situation is sorted I think he is a good enough squad player. Still very young, don't forget.

This sums it up. He did ok today and nearly scored twice. If Bale stays or is replaced then he probes won't start but provides great squad depth.

I think he is better on the ball than people give him credit for.

There was plenty of scenarios today where I thought he'd lose the ball but he'd come out with some skill and get away with it. I think he's a great prospect but I can see why you think he's too weak, he's a playmaker more of a goalscoring midfielder in my eyes (basically a better version of dempsey)

He's great on the left where he can cut in and shoot/cross but I don't think he fits the mould of that Mata/Holtby/Kagawa sort of player that sits behind the striker. If we can play Holtby or sign someone to play there we'll be fine but Sigurdsson deserves to feature for us, he's a handy player.

Thought he did ok today, had a couple of chances 1 which he should have scored.

What people don't notice was his movement, as he could have had other chances if picked out. There was at least 2 times where Lennon was guilty once, not sure on the other time, where he hangs back on the penalty spot completely unmarked waiting for the pull back for it only to be cut out or the wrong option picked.

Think we can do better, and dont belueve he will be a starter when we've completed our transfer business, but certainly quality enough to be in our squad and rotated.

Thought he did well and showd glimpses that he will be important for us. Nor an easy day for ant no. 10 coming up against a very hardworking palace side. He was constantly surrounded by two three players beecause palace midfield occupied all the no. 10 space. That's why he had to come deep and take part and therefore didn't look line the playmaker. But he workd hard to get on the ball, had some good touches and distributed it well when he had the chance to. Didn't fade compared to others - even Soldado, Paulinho and Chadli also had hot and cold periods today.

He'll come good. He has all the nevessary abilities imo.

And Rafa wanted to move to Hamburg and great as he was with us, wasn't even that good there last season.

Agree totally with the above. Palace played very narrow and there was often numerous payers squeezing his space. I thought that our wingers often came inside too which further restricted his space.

I thought today was a very tough game. Barely fit centre back, entirely new left side of pitch, absent of last seasons talisman, brand new forward player as part of 3 new names on the team sheet. As well as away to a promoted team who were chomping at the bit with us being the David of David and Goliath who the media would be gagging to fall.

3 points - get in!
