With Harry Kane being the first Englishman to claim the Golden Boot in the EPL since Kevin Phillips there was always going to be fabulous hype surrounding the Tottenham man going into the Euros.

At the risk of sounding a bit knee-jerk, Kane failed his “I’m a top class forward” audition today.

Yep, it sounds knee-jerk and this article is standard England at a tournament scapegoating bollocks.

Staggered at the response in the press to Kane's performance (although it wasn't great) yet the lack of response to the performance of the £50m Sterling who seemed to have a problem passing, running with the ball, crossing and anything other than the basic 'standing up without falling down' task!

I think Kane worked hard but looked off the pace a bit I hope Hodgson rests him against Wales.. I have no idea why he is taking corners and needed to be doing more of his work in and around the box instead of dropping so much. I suspect his positional play was down to the managers tactics but it was impossible for him to be affective playing that way foe 90 mins

Peter Taylor gave Sterling 8/10 on sky. Staggering. His 2nd half performance was awful.

He may well be a 100m runner in football boots but unfortunately he's the only real pace in the squad.

Last 2 England matches have seen Rooney returned to the team & Kane has been somewhat absent in both of them, yet he (and the rest of the team) looked so much better when Rooney wasn't playing. Is it a coincidence?

You what? How the hell did he come up with that?

Are you sure the 8/10 was a rating he gave Sterling, rather than saying he fucked up 8 out of the 10 things he attempted, with the 2 successes being, walking on the pitch before the game, then walking off the pitch when he was subbed off?

I agree, leave him out of the rest of the games and he can come back to Spurs next season nice and rested and injury free.

However, feel free to play Vardy to exhaustion now he's off to the arse!

The lads knackered , he played in the u21s last summer - then 50+ games for us - now expected to be England's hero - madness the guy needs a rest for the good of England and Spurs

Kane was given absolutely no help from those around him and coupled with his corner kicking duties most of the game just passed him by. Strange decision by Woy.
Sterling on the other hand fluffed his lines constantly even though a couple of good opportunities fell his way.

See Alan Shearer has joined the bandwagon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36516830
Sterling only gets an 'I include him in this' line despite playing worse than Kane. Indeed, you could argue that Sterlings extremely poor play was starving Kane of service.
And no mention of Sterling being removed for Vardy but he would've taken off the best finisher we have instead.

I remember Shearer went about 10 England games once without scoring, you think he of all people would understand.

I was fuming to see Kane taking the corners.
What an idiotic idea having the top scorer in the league outside the box at set pieces.
And Sterling indeed was a joke. When I think how much he cost, a certain Andy Carroll pops to mind. England will have to have a long think about how to rearragne that team before Wales.
Kane in the box for one thing.

Roy and the media could leave Englands best striker confused and lacking confidence.
Ship Poch. in please- adjoining hotel - half the team are his boys - not useless Roy's

I would consider dropping Kane. He did look leggy and as mentioned elsewhere once Rooney was reintroduced Kane did not seem as effective.

Personally i would play vardy and kane at the start against wales

The boy is knackered.

He played for the U21's last summer and then played lone striker for virtually every game last season.

Poor guy.
